New member registration / administration
Hey guys, is any one else hearing about new members having troubles registering? Hopefully a administration person will see this and help out. The person is Keith Woodson and he registered but still can't post a thread or anything. He's not a paying member so I don't know if that's the trouble or not . Thanks for the help.

Re: New member registration / administration
I have no problem posting and I'm not a paying member.

Re: New member registration / administration
Perhaps he's trying to post in the part section. Have him try posting in the welcome or general area, he can drop in and say hi and show us pictures of his truck.

Re: New member registration / administration
I referred a fellow from Alabama here the other day and he told me he couldn't get registered either. I'm not sure if he has tried since.

Re: New member registration / administration
I have registrations off temporarily. That would be why.

Re: New member registration / administration
I may need help figuring out what I’m doing wrong. I am registered under R&B51. Tried to post some questions this weekend and can’t find them popping up. Tried it three or four times.
Trying to post the question in the 47 to 54 forum. Just hit “new thread” put in a title line, put in a question and hit “submit” but isn’t showing up on the site. Maybe you can help me? Posted via Mobile Device |

Username Password Email. Dob Location. |
Re: New member registration / administration
i see it is still off, my brother wanted to register but he gets all confused on things like this (he can hardly use a smart phone).
I assume registration is completely off because of Spambots with this old VB software - which has more holes for these bots than the Titanic! |
Re: New member registration / administration
Its still off because i am sick. I will finish what i can when i am up to being on a screen for more than 5 minutes. :)
If someone needs an account they can email me as i posted before. Ill get them added as soon as i am up to it. |
Re: New member registration / administration
I had a friend that asked me to check with Admin, because he was having the same troubles, but this was almost a year ago now. I think he just gave up, and so did I. I had sent a message with the concerns about his problems because he couldn’t even get back on the forum, but I never back from anyone.

Re: New member registration / administration
I am pretty sure the Forum Admin (Josh) that handles the VB Forum software (perhaps the Web Server as a whole?) is in a rough spot with this old VB version (there is no easy fix). This site isn't his day job either. Keeping registration's disabled or requiring Admin approval is generally because of Spambot / Bad Actors from getting in. I was once a VB Forum admin and disabling registration wasn't Plan A.
Now to me, it seems some type of registration limitation has been in place since I came into the forums. Which I have an official join date of June 2020, I started trying to register in Feb/April 2020 when I got my 72 C10. For months all I wanted to do is ask questions! For ages I read thread after thread of forum admins / mods replies trying to gleam a email address. I finally found Josh's in May of 2020 and that took a month before he had the time (or will) to handle my request. But at least he replied and got me in - that was a super happy day for me :-) I feel for the admins and I can only image how many people move on because they hit a wall and don't know what to do. Now for some constructive criticism: There should be a "Registration Status" Sticky that gives the current state of registering at the forums (that is kept current). If there isn't a normal path to register, then how to get processed, if possible. |
Re: New member registration / administration
If nothing else, you seem to think you know more than we do. I applaud your willingness to direct the site, perhaps you should join the staff.
I love constructive criticism myself. Thanks |
Re: New member registration / administration
Liz, it seems that I have offended you - I did not mean to do this at all. I also didn't mean to imply that I know more than you guys. If anything I was trying to offer my appreciation and understanding for a rough job.
That isn't to say I haven't *some* understanding of VB, as I upkeep a web hosting site with VB (back when this actually VB you use was new!) for nearly 15 years (under 5k users, so a small place). It is more or less a thankless job but I assure you I give all of you (Admins and Mods) my many thanks. Which is why I am a Premium Member, to support the site and staff. I offer up my sincere apologies and I hope you accept them and have no lasting ill will towards me. I do hope you feel better from your illness too and I hope it isn't anything serious. |
Re: New member registration / administration
Not even a little. Thats the problem with text speak. After almost 20 years of being here, it takes a whole lot to offend.

Re: New member registration / administration
Well you had me fooled but I am extremely happy to read your reply that I didn't! It is detrimental to ones membership to be pissing off Administrators!! Ha!

Re: New member registration / administration
We try not to to remove folks for their opinion … right, wrong or indifferent. We would have a much smaller member base if that were true. I’m going back to the world of beds and meds if we are done beating this dead horse.

Re: New member registration / administration
I just got back on the site today after a year almost to the day. I tried to do password resets and never got the emails.
Additionally I cant see that stupid over the top secret code crap on this device. I guessed so many times that my blood was boiling. Finally got to a different device that I could increase the size enough to get it right. What is the point? To be so secure that its no longer accessible? You can't even contact administration with out solving that ridiculous puzzle. I was a contributing member but I'm not paying to be locked out . Just like everybody else I have online accounts with several banks, utilities, insurance you name it. I am completely paperless. Hardest account to long onto by a country mile? The old truck forum. |
Re: New member registration / administration
Its a temporary stopgap to prevent the forums from being overrun by soammers. I am sorry we arent a multi million dollar company with scores of people to save problems and keep the riff raff out. If i were to disable the phrases or similar you wouldn't have a forum to complain about. The members have been manually approved forever, with the recent bits and AI spammers it has become overwheliming to approve them in irder to keep this site 100% spam free. I am working on a few different solutions, but eveything takes lots of time to do with databases this large. This place costs more than my mortgage a month to operate, not complaining, however, i do work a full time job in order to support my family. When i have vacation time between being sick and family time i will upgrade everything. Your moral support is truly appreciated.
