Project Park Service - 67 K10 shorty

I picked this up not long ago, always wanted to round out my trucks to having one of each (A short wide, a 2wd Blazer, and now a K10 shorty)
According to the owner, she started out life as a Park Service vehicle doing the usual chores that take place in a park. Moving materials, Garbage hauling, etc... hence the name.

Current plan for the winter of 2013 is to get her up and on the road with minimal fuss.. Next year it will be back to the shop for an overhaul top to bottom, which includes taking her back to a full on 1967..

I found this locally from a really nice guy who I could tell hated to let her go, but has his hands full with other projects. He things started by both gathering some restoration parts, and refurbishing a few others.

When I picked her up, we loaded not only the truck, but filled the cab and my Blazer to the brim with parts.

Here is how she looked the day I found her.

Some of the things he got started on, were a newly rebuilt / recovered seat and restored door panels.

Plus he seems to like powder coated parts, so he had several of them done including the glove box door, core support, grille, wheels, front bumper, and a few brackets here and there. He also had the gas tank completely gone through and it looks better than new.

He also found a pretty nice clip off of a 68 50th truck and swapped out the front clip, and doors.

He removed the non original engine a previous owner had installed, a stock 350 which I did not need, but he left the remaining running gear intact. As you can see from the firewall, the truck was originally red, confirmed on the SPID.

Speaking of the SPID, he saved the original glove box door from which I was able to decipher the following..

Serial number - KS147Z160750
Paint - 04514AA
Model - KS10734 W/B - 115
04F76AA - FRT WHEEL LOCK HUBS
04L25BA - 292 CI IN I-6 ENG
04U15JA - SPEED WARNING IND
04Z252AA - FOAM SEAT
04C42CA - DELUXE AIR HEATER
04K28GB - FUEL FILTER EQ
04M20GD - 4 SPD TRANSMISSION
04U663DA - PUSH BUTTON RADIO
04Z53CA - AMMETER - OIL GAUGE

Yup, for anyone paying close attention, she came from the factory as a short wide, but now has a 68 step side bed on her. I actually like her as a stepper, and already have a 67 step side bed and a set of front fenders to use.

Underneath, she's all stock including the closed knuckle Dana 44, but he did replace the front springs with brand new one's from Benz Springs in Portland. I don't yet know the gear ratio, but will once I dig in and change fluids, inspect the brakes etc...

First up, I am going through one of the spare engines I have, it's a 350 from a 72 Blazer that had been recently rebuilt. I'm going to give it the once over and do both a cam and head swap.. (I'm not a fan of the 882 heads)

Beginning the tear down.

OK, that's brings things up to date, more to follow...

Congrats on the new truck. I had been watching this one. Really liked the way it looked, but was looking for a 2 wheel drive. Enjoy it.

Re: Project Park Service - 67 K10 shorty

I've been a bit sidetracked the past couple of weeks working on my son's 68, but I have managed to get the bottom end of the motor back together. I'm going with a custom ground cam which is basically a comp Extreme 4x4 12-239-3 but was ground on a 110* lobe separation instead of 111.

For heads, I think I'm going to run a set I have already, they are Edelbrock Performer RPM 60899 2.02 / 1.70 and to top things off I have a wieand intake.

As soon as I get that together I'll work on the floors and some other rust repair.

Pics coming soon.

Been working on a few things, but none of it truck related..

I did manage to clean out the cab to get a better look at what's in store as far as rust repair.. Some pics coming

Didn't get the pics to load, but I'm working on it

Re: Project Park Service - 67 K10 shorty

Been busy lately working on everything but my projects.. I did however take a few days and part one of the worst condition Blazers I've seen.

Only parts worth salvaging were;

72 Axles Dana 44 and 12 bolt with all steering components
Turbo 350/205 combo & drivelines
Front spring perches
Both sets of leaf springs
Tailgate
High hump
Dash radio section
Windshield frame (not so nice once I got it removed and looked closer)

That's about it.. Man what a pile this thing was

Pics coming soon

Looks like a great build, I have a 1967 K10 that was very similar to yours from the factory except for the long bed.

I'm excited to follow your progress

Well, updates have a way of getting few and far between these days..
here is a picture of the Blazer that donated some goodies for Park Service

Here is a shot as she headed out to never never land..

I did manage to also get some new springs for the heads, and have begun the swap. next will be to get the engine setup on my test stand and break in the cam! Looks like I have some time off over the holidays, so I am hoping for the best.

slow progress.. What else is new!

It's been way to long since I have had any progress on my projects, but that doesn't mean that I haven't been busy..
I have been working to thin my heard a bit, in fact I have decided that basically everything goes but the 68 short wide and Park Service. This purging process is underway, and you will see parts hitting the boards pretty soon. I have continued to work on everyone else's projects but mine...

Still gathering a few parts for her, most recently some Hickey goodies thanks to midunes.

And even more fun will be this addition..
https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3836/...ec953f896b.jpg

The engine is still waiting to have the cam broke in, but it is otherwise ready to go.

Guess I had better get these axles redone so i can hang some of this jewelry on them..

BTW,
As the parts come up for sale, at least one will be from here, the stepside bed.. i convinced myself to take Park Service back to a true 67 SWB...

Re: Project Park Service - 67 K10 shorty

I tucked this project away for the winter, way to much happening to build 3 trucks at once..
After I got my hands on Hickey front and rear diff covers, I had a goofy idea one afternoon, and came up with this just to get a laugh from my wife..

Still on the back burner, but I have acquired a new steel bed floor and bedsides so i can get it back to a short wide as it should be.
