cs130 alternator conversion

I'm converting my 70 panel truck from the external regulator to the cs130 internal regulated alternator. I've rewired per instructions i've found online but can't the the alternator to charge. The info i've found says the idiot light wire excites the alternator but i have an ampmeter guage. Any ideas how to get the alternator excited and charging? Thanks, Lee

these are the instructions i followed. http://www.camaros.net/techref/ftecref14.html

I always put an inline resistor on the brown, brown/red wire. I will get the value of the resistor soon and post it. I am gonna be doing the same conversion soon on both of my trucks, but I am using the bigger CS-144.
