My 84 CC Dually mod thread - there will be plenty of pics

So I figured I would start a mod thread for my 84 CC Dually.

I bought the truck for one main reason and that is to tow my 30' high performance speed boat! Once I got the truck home it didn't take long for the mod itch to set in(especially when browsing this site!).

The truck is a Texas one owner 84 CC Dually with a 454/th400, dana70hd. It is a western hauler edition. Here are a few pics of the truck the way she looks today

A photo shopped rendition of a 4/5 drop with some bolt on 19's

The drop will take place while I am on vacation over the Christmas holidays. The components consist of Belltech 3" drop spindles and 1" drop springs, 4" hanger/shackle kit and the plan to remove a few leafs. I will also be replacing all 4 shocks! Come on Christmas vacation!!

Hey neighbor! Love the color scheme on that truck, it's gorgeous. I'll be looking for it around.

Definitely neighbors! Was your comment regarding the color sarcasm? Sometimes I just can't tell, personally I don't care for the color, it was nice for it's time but I am leaning towards a solid color! All black or all white. Thinking more white so it matches the boat and I can do the same graphics design on both.

I am sure you will see the truck around as I have several friends in epping!!

Not sarcastic at all, I really like it! It's one of those things where I would never dream of using either one of those colors alone or as a two tone, but when you see it it just works. I wouldn't change it if it were me.

I dont know if you can gain another inch by pulling that over load spring out.
but you will need to remove the stops for the over loads off the frame if you dont pull the springs
I guess Ill be watching to find out. I have the 4/4 drop on mine and it dosnt take a lot of weight to start leveling it out

I was actually thinking of removing one or two of the actual leafs but then my concern will be once I hook the boat up to it, it will sag to much. With the stock suspension it sags 1 inch with the 800lb tongue weight. Do you have a nice side shot of your truck so I can see the 4/4 drop?

You probably know this already, but Western Hauler is a company in Ft Worth Texas that does conversions on trucks. Back when I was in high school (87-91) all the guys with money had Western Hauler trucks. They are still in business, but nowadays they are focusing on the latest trend among Texas ranchers, medium duty trucks. They convert the Freightliners and Peterbilts now. I still rubberneck every time I drive by their shop.

take'n the overload springs out wont lower it any, but they will hit the bumpstop's with lower'd shackles and/or lower'd hangers. you could get the helper airbag's and solve the sag issue with the boat hook'd up.
or go all out and bag it with a 4 link and heavy duty bags, could haul anything then .

I love the interior in these things! I'm not a fan of old man tan and doo doo brown but I wouldnt change the paint on this truck. I like it. I would get rid of the wing thing on the back of the cab and thats it. Not sure what its called

I would love to go all out but fully bagged is not for me. My first truck I built was bagged and even though it was cool it just created to much maintenance. I need something that is simple and doesn't draw to much attention from DOT! I think the static 4/5 drop will do fine.

I will know more once I start lowering the rear but maybe a combination of removing a couple leafs but keeping the overload and moving the frame pads might allow me to set it up where she can sag 1" and then be touching the overload spring. Like I said we will see!

Aaaahhhhh! Now I see the rake. That's what I thought it would look like with a 4/4 drop. I really want an extra inch out of the rear and then with the boat attached should really level it out nicely. Like I said to jitteryguy I guess I won't really know my options until I start ripping her apart!

Thanks for the photo!

I'd like to drop the assend another inch so I think I'll make brakets to weld to the frame and lift the front hanger an inch and see what that does

That's kinda what I was thinking. Do you have any idea the distance from the bed bottom to the top of the hanger? Can you make up the 1" needed?

off the top of my head Im thinking its like 2 1/2 inch so I was thinking of using 2x2 angle and weld gusets on the sides drill holes for the upper bolts on the hanger

Wow that's plenty! I don't plan to remove the bed so this will be a little tricky but I the extra inch is a must!

I will make sure to take plenty of pictures!! I am getting excited. Last day of work is next Tuesday and then the fun starts!

Id remove the bed it makes life a lot easier when doing the rear drop Ive done it with and with out the bed on

6 bolts plus the 3 screws in each gas filler and ground straps it takes les then an hour but you'll make up that time with it out of the way
I'd much rather set or stand as to lay on my back to work on mine
