402 Big Block for Sale

402 Big Block comes from my 1972 K1500. The truck came from Texas where it was purchased at auction by professional NASCAR driver Landon Cassill. I purchased it from the family dealership Cassill Motors in Cedar Rapids, IA. It has been my daily driver (except in winters) ever since. I have put 7,000 miles on it myself. I don't know how many miles the motor has as it appears to have been rebuilt at some point. Truck odometer says 79,700 miles.

The engine runs just fine except it is in need of a tune-up and a rear main seal as it leaks a bit of oil. Includes Rochester Q-Jet carb, HEI distributor, stock fuel pump, and original air cleaner.

I am replacing this engine with a new crate motor and will swap the valve covers. This engine will come with the valve covers from the new crate engine.

Asking $1100, which includes shipping charges or $750 if you pick it up in Marion, IA. The engine will be available sometime around mid-July.

Could you find out what compression and bore it is from the dealer?

Re: 402 Big Block for Sale

Landon bought it at auction pretty much the way it is. The dealership fixed a few things on the truck but didn't do any engine work that I know of. The engine has been painted though it's been a while and so I'm assuming someone has had it apart but I have no way of knowing for sure.

I'm assuming that if any engine work has been done it hasn't ventured too far from stock. It will chirp the tires in 2nd gear and it will get up to speed pretty easily but it still feels stock to me. The idle sounds pretty stock too.

No pulleys, power steering pump, or a/c compressor, starter, or related brackets. I will provide a good alternator, however. It will come with the water pump, fuel pump, oil pan, dipstick, carb, stock air cleaner, distributor and plugs (no wires). I will also include the flex plate and exhaust manifolds.

I can't find the casting number on the block at the moment but will provide that after I get the engine swapped this weekend. I'll also see if I can find the casting numbers for the heads.

Big blocks weren't available for K1500s - is the truck a C2500?

I got the casting numbers off the engine this weekend:

Engine: 3999290 = 1972 402 2-bolt
Heads: 3999241 = 1972 402 2.06 intake 1.72 exhaust

Re: 402 Big Block for Sale

The engine is ready for anyone that is interested. I had to keep the old water pump because the new engine came with the long style and I needed the short style to do the swap. Therefore, this engine will come with a brand new long style water pump.
