Lowering seat Brothers vs FCF
 

Thinking about lowering my seat in my 68 C20 to give some extra belly and leg room.

I have been reading different threads tonight.

Comparing the following 2.

One thing I could not find while searching was actual measurements of how much room is gained between the steering wheel and the seat. Anybody measured either when they installed the lower mounts?

I am thinking of doing the same since I am 6'-6" tall. Both companies claim a 2" lower seat, so that would be the clearance you gain. This works if you don't want to move the seat in the future and have nothing mounted under the seat.

My preference are the FCF mounts due to pre-finished, fewer parts, cheaper, and apperance.

I will probably also go to a smaller steering wheel.

I'm sure either will work just as well as the other. I have the FCF brackets on my bench. Steering wheel position will be dependent on how thick the back cushion is. It'll put you in a better driving position, vertically, but doesn't change much on the forward to rearward positioning.

Install tip for the FCF brackets.... Run longer bolts up from the bottom of the cab to use as studs....or.....just use studs and nuts.

I like my FCF brackets, but could do without their name cut out from the metal.

I also found a ratchetting box end wrench to be a must with my fat hands/fingers

I did this as well with my FCF brackets.

I've had them in my truck for while and will be removing them next time I take the seat out and going back to stock height. I just don't like the feel of the pedals in particular the clutch with the seat dropped. probably not an issue on trucks with an automatic.

Thank you all for your input.

I do like that the Brothers have a bit more adjustability moving the seat around and that they use more bolts to hold the seat down to the floor.

As I am in Canada it might come down to shipping availability.

I believe both solutions use all eight bolts. The linked photo represents one assembly. Or, 4 pieces are used per seat.

Has anyone thought the seat was too low afterwards? By the pic on brother's site, the seat looks to be on the floor almost.

It sits pretty low, but my foam is all new and firm, so I don't sink as much as other seats.

Like I said in my post above I'll be going back to the stock brackets. I feel too cramped with the lowered seat in particular when working the clutch pedal. Might not be as much of an issue on automatic trucks. Just personal preference but I liked the stock height better.

I ordered the FCF bracket.

It will be a winter project to recover the seat and change the brackets. I will try and remember to report back.

Also thinking that once the seat is lower I can push the column forward a little bit. I hand not done this as I have read that it also lowers the wheel. But if the seat is lower I should be able to make a lower wheel work.

Brothers mounts are junk. All they do is lower the seat. The seat is a good 2-3 inches forward and will not go all the way back. Bad design. I'm 6' 5" and it's actually worse. Puts you closer to the steering wheel and increases your knee bend making the pedals more difficult to use. I'm chucking the 100.00 junk and going back to stock seat mounts and a 15 inch wheel.

This was not the case with my FCF brackets. Good design.
