Aint that the truth. The other day I went into Dairy Queen and they asked if I would donate to some kids fund. I says what the heck and gave them a buck. They gave me $2 in coupons. Then on my way out I'm in the giving mood so I jump on the Blood donation bus and gave blood for the first time. They gave me a ten dollar gift card for Lowe's.(I work there) The guy inside the bus says he lives around the corner and has a New dishwasher he needs gone so I got a Free new dishwasher. I think I'm addicted.

I did a little fabrication work on the firewall and windsheild frame. It was nice getting back on the body after spending so long on the frame. The driprail needed to be smoothed out and it came out pretty good. Also deleted the ac holes.
Attachment 1418392
This is all new to me so don't be too harsh!!!
Attachment 1418393
I have moved forward with trying my hand at fabbing up parts, my first peice was the windsheild frame patch where I had to cut to lay it back. I made a template and then cut it out.
Attachment 1418394
It fit pretty well on my first try.

I finished deleting the drip rail/wire loom gutter and moved to the cover. Pay no attention to all the junk in the truck, it was cleaned out!!!
Attachment 1418410
I used a rubber mallet and a concave jackstand to pound the cover into a slight bend in the center which in turn made it bend to just the right curve to fit the area to be covered.:metal:
Attachment 1418411
A little prefit and very minimal grinding got it just right.
Attachment 1418412
I tacked it on and started measuring my cowl to see exactly how I was going to make it look right. That my friends, is next weekends project!!!

Hahaha, now I am getting pressed for pics!! Really did not get anything significant done this weekend except cleaning the shop!! Of course we have to do that occasionally. I did weld some square tubes to the body dolly to keep the tub from sliding off, safety first!:metal:

Thank you sir! I have to weld a small piece on the driver side and put some more tacks on it before it's done. Hope to get that done this weekend!

I'm baaack!!! Have been working a lot and just have not had the time to post! My company called me back after being off just one week and I have been working ever since. July 23 is my supposed last day now. Back to the project!! Got a few minor little things done..... I cut a big hole in the tub....
Attachment 1425580
Just enough to fit the c-notches in!
Attachment 1425581
It felt good seeing it sitting on the frame.

Even while still sitting on the jacks I was happy to see wheels tuckin!!
Attachment 1425583
I should have pulled the wheel wells out first, but you know how it is when you get excited about something.

I guess I was posting while you wrote this! There was a little progress made on the top of the windshield frame, just not anything noteworthy really. As for the cowl I am considering a couple of different approaches, one I can do with my limited skill and tools the other will have to be a paid job. :waah:

Since it was a large step I took a few extra pics.
This is the first pic of it layed out almost at zero pressure.
Attachment 1425622
This is lifted to almost max.
Attachment 1425623
This is a problem, it's not low enough!!! The heads on the bolts that hold in the trailing arm crossmember make the body and frame "teeter" front to back so this will have to be addressed.
Attachment 1425624
Limbo contests are gonna be fun with this thing!!
Attachment 1425625
Added a fender to check clearance, everything looks good after cutting out for the Slosh Tubz, doesn't look like I'll have to cut into the firewall but things change.

Looks great!
What size (diameter) wheel/tire combo will you be running when it's finished?
This will dictate how low it goes.

Blown06 07-15-2015 03:18 PM

Re: Buried to Bagged 1972 2wd

Weld the bottom of that crossmember then you won't have the bolt heads to deal with. Honestly how often do you plan to remove it? But if you do decide to remove it you only have a few welds to cut.

I was thinking 22X9 front and 24X12 back. Then we have to really get technical and ask what tire size. After deleting the bolt heads I will have a better idea of what I am really dealing with.

I was planning on welding it, just really surprised that it made it sit that far off the ground with the body on. I do not have the body mounts in yet so we'll see how that effects it. Next is body mounts and measurements for all the stuff that will be hidden.

I figure there is a happy medium between layin the frame, wheel size, and pinch weld removal. I will be Zen when these three things come together. The mounts are not really gonna raise it that much because I stuffed in the old mounts in. So I may be looking at an 1/8th to a 1/4 difference from the pics. But I see you slept at a Best Western last night!! :metal:

One of the rubber mounts is ripped in two, so I have to allow for that. Have you already got your mounting kit?

Blown06 07-15-2015 05:32 PM

Re: Buried to Bagged 1972 2wd

Yeah body drop kit is in, still have to buy the cushions. I'm missing a few items but Travis is working on it. Having flooring put in the house this week so no truck work will happen during my week off at home, but that's ok since the wife is happy.

Thanks man! It's a ghost town over here in the Blazer area, that's too bad cause there is some nice stuff happening over here. That insurance will be on point when this Blazer hits the roads!!!

I am steadily making progress each week! The pics do not show much progress, but it actually was a lot of progress. Only had a day and a half to get this all done so I was happy. These pics are all that I took, but I did spray both sides of the tub with rattle can primer. I hope to have an announcement about the project soon.....so stay tuned!!!
Paint is gone off the dash.
Attachment 1428243
I fabbed up a filler panel and filled in the windshield pillar, still gotta weld in the other side.
Attachment 1428244
Made some fillers for the taillights as well.
Attachment 1428245
Bare metal shows all, found a patch at the front of the tub on both sides and the quarter panel on the driver side will need to be replaced. There was a gallon of bondo on that quarter panel!!!:metal:
