Found on Craigslist

I think this should be a permanent fixture on the forum for trucks that people find on craigslist.

I'd love to have this one but my wife would skin me alive for spending more money!!

Re: Found on Craigslist

there have been so many shorties for sale here lately that I'm going nuts I want a short so bad. I'm thinking if I can get 300 out of my 83 then I can go buy this one no problem. (have to remember the 83 needs rockers, and rust repair around the wheel wells on the bed. as well as a new dash pad/carpet) would sell with engine and trans of unknown condition and the block has the starter ear snapped off. But i doubt anyone would take on that should have sold it before the mud runs that went last week lol.

Re: Found on Craigslist

I have noticed more 73-87 stuff on craigslist lately... of course it always happens when I don't have the money. When I did have the money I couldn't find a one at all.

Re: Found on Craigslist

Ya, trucks that cheap that start and move get sold quickly. Gotta be Johnny on the Spot more or less with cash in hand. I have learned through the years though, patience pays off. Don't be so eager that you feel you need to buy the first one you stumble on just because you've missed out on a few others. Put the word out to local friends, network the search!

Good luck, hope you find a good one. :chevy:

Re: Found on Craigslist

long bed cab swb frame?Since the two pieces would have different vin plates would this be illegal? The reason I ask is that I know where a swb frame is and I'd like to drop my lwb cab on and just find a bed.

good deal! get that..

Re: Found on Craigslist

why not just cut 14" out of the lwb frame you have and stick a bed on that...that way you don't have to buy another truck...

WigglesTheHoly 05-27-2010 08:35 AM

Re: Found on Craigslist

Cause i could pick up the frame for under 100

baclay9 05-27-2010 08:42 AM

Re: Found on Craigslist

For $100 I don't think you can go wrong man. No worries with putting your cab on the other frame. VIN # for the truck is on the cab.

WigglesTheHoly 05-27-2010 03:45 PM

Re: Found on Craigslist

there are vins on the frame too

RandyP 05-27-2010 04:50 PM

Re: Found on Craigslist

There are VIN's all over, like 5 or more. The important one is the one that shows on the dash though. As long as it matches what is on your title, most will not look for a second plate. Frame swaps are common, even on newer vehicles, we do frame swaps all the time on trucks that are like 06 and 07's.

Having a bill of sale showing you bought a different frame, with the VIN on the sale bill, would be good to have though. Documentation, you can never have enough. ;)

Re: Found on Craigslist

I may look into it then, but I'm going to go knock on a door after work today for a shorty that has been sitting for atleast the last 3 years and see if they are willing to part with it for the right money.

Re: Found on Craigslist

the VIN on the frame is not important, it is the VIN on tha cab that matters because that is what the dmv goes off of. my dad put a 69 cab on his 72 chassis and has to register the truck as a 69 because of the cab Vin.

67/72junkie 06-23-2010 05:44 PM

Re: Found on Craigslist

No reason to check unless you get in a wreck or suspected your truck of being stolen. In NC you have to produce title that matches cab and title that matches frame.Dmv guy will come out and inspect both.Afterward dmv will issue a new data plate with both vins combined to attach in the cab.If you get caught with mismatched cab and frame they will impound your truck until you produce both titles and go though previous procedure. It will cost you towing, impound fees and improper registration ticket.I had cab off several trucks sitting around the property and DMV man stopped by .He run the numbers on every bare frame ,cab and truck I had to make sure nothing was stolen.I had swapped the cab on one and he made me do this.

Here in Alabama when I registered my truck, all I did was show my title and bill of sale and that was it. No inspection, nothing lol.

Re: Found on Craigslist

Haven't bought a shorty yet but in the next 2 weeks I'm going to be picking up a 79 lwb that has been garaged its entire life and only taken camping until about 10 years ago when the owner passed. Only spending 1200.
