if it is just the resistor you need According to the experts, the resistor can be any size between 35-Ohm (5W) and 500-Ohm (1/2W). at Radio Shack # 271-1113

Yeah it's a pigtail sort of thing that converts your old(85 amp)alt conn on one side to the newer higher output(105 amp I believe) alt and has the newr conn on the other end? I know it was a napa auto part? Not sure if "resistor" is the correct word? Thanks for the follow up though.anyone know what I'm looking for?

Re: Alt upgrade resistor part#????

BL try this

Adapter plug is available, without a charge light (as in my case) you need an adapter harness with a resistor built in. This is Echlin Part number (Napa) EC82. Apparently AC Delco, Autozone, nor Checker/Schucks/Kragen can cross reference this part. The part numbers normally mentioned Delco P/N 8078 General Motors P/N12102921 appear to no longer be valid, none of the above listed could cross them, they don't show up on AC Delco.com, gmpartsdirect.com, nor can my local GM parts counter find or cross them. Carquest S792 "connector".

Here is a website that shows how to wire in the resistor and all you need is the plug for the CS alternator. The pre made adapters are around $30 dollars.
