72 c10 lowered leaf spring struck

Cleaning up frame for lowering project, but kept it with leaf springs. Is the shock location ok for lowering it with 5" leaf springs?

There is a second hole in the shock mount that is in a more vertical position that is better IMO. I drilled the upper hole out and mounted new shock hardware in that. My truck has a rear flip kit that netted 7” of drop. I used stock front shocks in the rear which has worked well.

Did you cut off old shock mount as well? Any pics of how low your truck sits? I didn't want it to low but curious as to what size tire you run om rear?

I removed the old shock mount. I don’t remember if it needed cutting or just unbolting? I want to say I just unbolted it and reused it in the second hole? I’ve had a couple of other trucks I have worked on in the mean time and may be mixing some of the shock mount hardware up.

I also used the additional hole in the shock bracket but made my own lower mount to run the original shocks.

Nice work. With the original mount in place, front shocks were the perfect length. And I was hoping the fronts had more dampening than the original rears. Do they? Don’t know but am happy with the results, I’m running KYB GR2 shocks.

i swapped the mounts sides and it finished up a good angle for the shocks

Parts all painted and ready to go back in...started wondering about pinion angle. I have 5" lowering leaf pack and only found a shackle with 1 and 2 inch lowering options. So rear will be down 6". I did put in all new u-joints on 2-piece driveshaft as well.

Will i have issues with pinion angle and/or length of driveline?

That will just depend on your truck and the spring pack. The flip kit pinion angle is adjustable. You can buy shims if you need to adjust yours. Once you get it together, you can measure it.

I didn't do a flip kit. Just 5" leaf pack and the shackles which i have at 1" option right now. I haven't looked into it yet, any idea what proper angle should be?

Couple more things to button up...

My apologies my post wasn’t clear. On my truck the flip kit allowed the pinion angle to be adjusted. On yours, you will have to get it on the ground and measure to find out if you need to correct it or not.

Rear is done...pinion angle looks fine...drove it around the block, previous vibration it had is gone.

Update on rear...

Used the 1 or 2" lowering shackle on 2" option
5" lowering leaf pack

had to cut one of the bed support channels to let leaf spring clear. Bed of floor clears the shackle. 7" total drop on rear, front going down 4" with spindle and springs.

Nice. I did the leaf flip on mine I think we discussed above and it netted 7” of drop. I have some ECE drop rear shackle, but 7” is low enough that frame interference starts to loom.

I did disc conversion 2 1/2” drop spindles and 2” drop springs on mine. Very happy with how it looks and rides.
