Functional vintage tool box ideas?

When it comes to cruising around in my C-20, I'm a boy scout kinda guy. I like to be prepared. Whether I'm just going out for a ride (driving this thing puts my mind in a good spot) or going to town to get a load from the hardware store, I always throw in a small tool box that I have set up with a few select tools. Jumper cables, star lug wrench, good hydraulic jack, you know a few basic tools--at my age, I'd hate to change a tire or try to help someone out with what is under my seat.
The problem is...
(1) I don't like a plastic box sliding around the bed
(2) Even though I'm a trusting kinda guy, I'm vulnerable to someone running off with it.
(3) I don't like the looks of it. It doesn't look like something Grampa had. Lol

What are some solutions to this that you guys have come up with. Modern tool boxes seem too large and look too new, is there something that looks like it would belong there, not be too intrusive and most of all be functional?

Pictures would be wonderful!
Thanks in advance.
Slim

Here is a link to a similar thread.

I was thinking of something like this for mine. Really simple and I would paint it the same color as the inside of the bed.

Personally I like the look of a truck tool box so I got a slightly beat up white one and it works perfectly. Down side is a little less bed space but I enjoy being able to pack needed tools and chains and keep it all dry.

i took the smallest JOBOX I could find, cut the feet off to reduce height, then sectioned about 6 more inches out to make i even shorter, and remove the handles, filled it with Ridetech air compressors, air tank, etc. Paint is one-step, it's mounted on rubber pucks to help isolate compressor vibration. Stan Weaver is striping a pineapple on it :).

Just realized I have an extra ammo box in the garage. Currently my tow strap and bungees are in a milk crate in my bed. Thanks for the inspiration!

"Snowbal!!" Looks good

I was going to use my old Marine Corps foot locker, but couldn't bring my sef to drill it to the bed.

Can you use a couple of the bed strip bolt holes to run bolts through

An old craftsman metal tool box or something like that can be bolted down and then the drawers locked to protect the contents - but it “looks” line just an old tool box sitting in the bed. Nobody will ever notice that it doesn’t slide around when you slam on the brakes.

1 . Put a gas tank under the bed.
2. Put standard tool box behind the seat

Have one in the 64 that is built into the forward wheel well it comes out flush with wheel well. Front o bed to wheel well passenger side. It was in there from long ago. Will post pictures up when I get home. It was and still is full of old newspapers. Kinda cool. Thought about removing it but don't think am going to. Will put up some pictures.

True. Perhaps because real deal vintage stuff is hard as heck to find. I lucked into a vintage cross-bed tool box about 35 years ago, and have never seen another like it before or since. Then about two years ago I found a vintage lumber rack which completes the work truck thing. I don't ever recall seeing one of those either. Crazy, but it seems I have the only matching era correct work truck accessories left on the planet. Ha!

If you want something still small enough to pull out here and there instead of permanent how about an old coke\pepsi\coleman ice chest?

They are
1.metal
2.not too big
3.big enough for decent load of tools
4.vintage
5.fairly easy to find original or some reproductions

Sorry for delay this is what our 64 came with. Just had to show someone the newspapers. Kinda cool!! Let me know if you need dimensions would be easy enough to fab one up. Kinda nice because you still have the whole center of bed to use. Ours is a long wide. This one is made out of galvanized from back in day. Was painted to match truck at some point but you can see most of it has peeled. Still small enough to not be in the way. Or some version of it. Must be waterproof still as papers are still dry as bone and well perserved.

JPB..that bedside box is cool...and waayyy before its time...doesnt dodge do that on their bed?
and id agree ..a old ice chest might be easier than a vintage toolbox..unless you specifically want a tool box

A good place to look for an old tool box is at garage sales. I see them all the time and I have pick up a couple and one of them is an old craftsman that I'm going to use for a center console.
