Which gaskets are you going to use with 6.0?

Exhaust not 6.0L ;)

I hope to git these round port aluminum Mr. Casket ones Part # 7402G (G is for custom made for Greg I think) which I already owned once, but like a fool returned

Yeah I saw those and wondered if you were going to use them or those never have to retorque ones.

"or those never have to retorque ones" I think you mean Remflex ones. funny thing you ask because the Remflex guy recommended the metal / aluminum squash kind for my headers when I showed him my pictures on this forum, yeah I showed off this thread to the Remflex guy, ha ha

so the Mr. Gasket 7402G rode home shot gun with me, no seriously in the front seat

$38 bucks, pretty pricey, hewk at this rate I'm building a million dollar exhaust

so lets take a closer gander at this be all end all gasket cause it sure wasn't what I expected, it comes off as a nice 1/8th of an inch gasket, or at least that's how it looks like in the box, well until you open it and flip it over

what's up with these ridges?

well lets try these on for size

first in non of the 17 languages on the box does Mr. Casket tell us which way is front and which way is back, in other words which side goes to the cylinder head and which one to the header

I guess the ridges are supposed to wrap around some header, but good luck finding a header that matches the gasket exactly precisely

Wonder if I should flatten out that ridge around the border on the gasket or leave it be so the gasket lays flat on the header?

here I show you my one man piston catching aparatus, don't worry it never came to that, the towel was there just in case, I tapped them out gently to where only the rings were crowning out

the first piston to come out was #5 and right away I noticed a problem, the oil rings were frozen / stuck, they would not spin nor wiggle

I marked this guy with a zip tie because I did not a have a number punch yet

so I decided to compare it to the number 1 piston

I lined up the ring slots on purpose for the pic so you can see the spacing, they were properly offset in the engine

notice how further apart the oil rings are on the #1 piston than the #5 (last pic) which are jammed closer together squeezing the piston to the point where they can't move

decided to hit Harbor Freight for a stamping set before pulling any more pistons, didn't want to mix them up, as they were not numbered/labeled already

I also picked up what I thought was a bore gauge set from Harbor Freight, and folks don't waste your money this is total junk, I was unable to find the center ie the widest point of the cylinder this thing wobbles all over and by the time to lock it down you are in a different spot

cleaned my second work bench, this one is on the passenger side, i really like these benches, come in so handy, and a clean workbench keeps me sane

so the driver side head etc. went on the drive side workbench, and the passenger side components will go on this side

and all the pistons out of the passenger side as well, and numbered

I realize I'm stamping them on the bottom part that comes off but I don't plan on having more than one apart at a time

yes I did get a ton done in one day, I wrapped things up late at night by de-ringing the pistons, and oh boy did I find two problems

but first the good side, the passenger side, all de-ringed

things got a bit more interesting on the driver's side

two oil rings were broken, can you guess which two? remember the two middle chambers in that head
