'95 transmission in a '93

Truck is a '93, '93-'94 transmissions interchange. When the original transmission lost 3rd and 4th I used a '92 because it's what I had. The bracket for the TV cable was already there I just needed a stud for the throttle body. No lockup but I didn't care because I don't use 4th. I was waiting for my favorite junkyard to get in a '93-'94 to swap in but 2nd gear went out. They did get in a '95 though, which is a stand alone year. I chopped out the transmission wiring harness, took the computer and the transmission for $200. There is only one wire missing from my '93 that the '95 transmission needs, but I took the whole harness anyways so I could check everything. I also took an extra '95 transmission harness plug.

So today I started, pulled the transmission. Laid them next to each other. Notice the Camaro/Firebird tailshaft housing on the old one. That transmission actually came out of that '92 van in the background.

Let's make sure this is a '95. There should be "PWM" cast onto the pump. Yep. That torque converter sure is purdy.

On to the wiring. I swapped the plug by releasing the wires and transferring them one at a time. The plugs are the same except for the hole through the rubber for the extra wire. The pen shows the extra wire, which is blue.

Then inside, to the computer. I checked all wires to make sure everything is the same except for the missing wire, and they are. This picture is the junkyard harness, the wire to be added to mine is the blue wire on the right. There is a different blue wire missing from this harness, I removed it to use on mine so I could keep this transmission harness intact. Tomorrow I'll run and splice the blue wire and put it all back together with the '95 computer.

I guess that isn't as interesting as I thought. Strike two. :D

Interesting, but I just don't have anything to add.

Looks too much like trying to setup a VCR

Thanks. Doing this saved me at least a grand, and now I can use any 700R4 or 4L60E up to '95.
