Re: 69 Suburban convert to automatic
Would need clutch pedal assembly inside, frame bracket and pivot ball assembly for the side of the motor, Bell housing, Flywheel & Clutch Assembly. The auto trans cross member would have to be replaced along with what style transmission. The driveshaft may have to be changed as well

I think he is going the opposite way you are thinking Richard. From manual to automatic. LockDoc |
Re: 69 Suburban convert to automatic
Not difficult at all to do....many have done it...but this topic will get many more responses in the 67-72 pickup section....the suburbans and trucks are identical from the front seat to the front bumper and everything in between...except the front doors....

you would need to change flywheel to flex plate, transmission & torque converter of your choice. New transmission lines to go to radiator that is equipped for the lines or install an external cooler. Will have to remove manual cross member and install one for automatic. If planning to run a floor shifter it will make it easier, otherwise you would need a new auto column along with all the shift linkage. Driveshaft most likely have to be changed as well. Can remove the clutch pedal and arm without having to replace the entire clutch/ brake assembly. |
Re: 69 Suburban convert to automatic
Thanks for responses. Truck is in another location currently.
I see I have to ID the transfer case. Maybe its a NP205? I know it has a low first gear, mostly unused. Then locate a short 4x4 tail shaft for TH350. I see it needs an adapter that bolts between trans and case. If this is all true, its not too bad. |
