My 5.3 got 18mpg in town with stock stall and stock LS1 cam. Small part of the reason I’m going back to the 5.3, adding a turbo, and switching to a 4l80. Hoping to get the power AND the mileage. Also, loved the cam lope but didn’t like the truck shaking at every stoplight.

I do have the cam specs out in the shop and will post them later. This is a cam they use a lot on these engines. Steve

nice job, keep the pics and progress reports coming.

I have done cars on my back before scraping undercoat with a torch and burning myself then the sandblast in every crevice of my body. I feel like I am cheating now. Will keep posting progress. Thanks Steve

Hi All, I am behind on posting about the progress on my project and will update to present. This will start from March till now. The first pictures are of the hood and bedsides being in the first coats of primer. Nor real exciting but all part of the process. Steve

These are pics are from late June early July. Frame came back from sand blast and got it prepped for epoxy primer and gloss black single stage urethane. I only filled some of the pits in the frame and smoothed out some of the welds. I am going for a nice driver that I could show if I wanted not a Kindig build. Steve

Pics from early August. Reinstalled all the accessories back on the engine along with the core support I test fitted the radiator so could figure out the fan situation. Everything fit well put only have .140" of space between the fan and the water pump. Won't know if I will be all right till I hang the sheet metal but am pretty confident. Steve

Blocked out the cab for the first time. There is a lot of mud from all the panel replacements and 65 years of dents. Here are the pics. Steve

This should get me caught up on my project. I put three coats of 2K primer surfacer on the cab. I will block all this out with 180 put a couple more coats of 2K the block with 400 and paint. Getting closer all the time. I have painted the middle of the firewall with color. The next step is to spray the bottom of the cab with tintable raptor bed liner then put the cab on the chassis for the last time. Steve

Sprayed the raptor bed liner on the lower part of the firewall, Lower plenums and the bottom of the truck. I tinted it per instructions and it came out a little lighter but acceptable. You really don't see much of this once all together. The cab should go back on the chassis this weekend. Steve

nice job. looks great. curious, are the lower rear cab corners inner and outer or just the outers? hard to tell in the pics and they are so smooth.

Looks great! I’m anticipating seeing color. We are both at the same point in our builds. If all goes well for me I hope to paint my cab today. Keep up with the progress pictures.
