Re: 57 Fleetside C4 build

Still plugging away on this project. I put a battery in it to see where I was on everything that has been done electrically so far. Was able to communicate with the PCM and found a couple of codes for the gas pedal which was my fault as I got a couple of the wires crossed when I took the connector apart to get it through the firewall. The second problem is it would not turn over and that was a broken wire in the supplied engine harness so now will turn over. I wired in the Dakota Digital dash which went really well and programmed it. I am going to try and start it soon and see how that goes. Steve

I really like the color combo. Isn't wiring fun??

Yes wiring can be trying at times. Luckily I found it pretty fast. I did put some fluids in it today and spun it a little and it fired a little. Must have been some fuel in the fuel rails. Steve

Re: 57 Fleetside C4 build

Made some good progress the last week or 2. I now have it running, brakes are bled and got all the fluid in the transmission and it does work. Right now working on a parking brake so it will pass New York state inspection. No pictures to show but still working away on it. Steve

Some more progress on the 57 project. I was able to finish the parking brake and installed the trim on the doors and rear window area. Started to come together. Here are some pics. Steve

VERY interested in a parking brake write-up for the C4 rear!

Along with that, I'd love to see how you mounted your 2 to 1 bracket for the parking brake. Is that the Lokar kit?

Thanks, Jim

I used 2 of the universal summit racing parking brake cable kits, The bracket is lokar and a couple of lokar single cable couplers. I was able to use a block that came with the summit kits that uses allen screws to secure the cables at the wheel side then threaded one of the lokar couplers on the other end. I will post a picture of what it looks like later. I am using the stock brake handle and the angle the cable goes to the handle is not the best but works. Steve

I’m interested also, especially the cable from the stock handle. The stock lever action sat very high on the firewall and I’d like to keep it clean now that it is smooth. Would prefer not to see it under the hood.

Here are the pics of the cable hook up, handle hook up and where it exits the firewall. Steve

Thanks for the detail pics on the brake cables! I really like your steering wheel… where did you find that and what is it?

The wheel is Billet Specialties Victory 14" D shaped. Steve

One more quick question on your cables. I couldn't tell from the pics, bit we're you able to run your cables through the original brake line bracketed holes, to run to inside of frame rails? Or are they just running from caliper to cable coupler bracket?

Thanks, Jim

Hi, I used the stock brackets in the stock location of the C4 rear. Steve

Sir,
Would it be possible to see how you routed your brake cables to the rear on your axle?

I ask because i am using a 85 C4 rear end in my 58, just was wondering how you routed them.
Thank you very much!

made some great progress on my 57 project. Some friends came over and helped me get the bed partially together and then finished putting it back together and the same bunch of friends came over and got the bed back on the truck. Really starting to come together. Here are some pics. Steve

I forgot one picture of the back. I like having all the chains and exposed latches hidden. Looks cleaner. Steve

Looks awesome! You’re making great progress. I like the clean look also. It’s going to look amazing when it’s done.

Thanks for the kind words. Made more progress on my project. Put the back bumper on and finished wiring the rear, tailgate hardware and a picture of the current wheels that came with it. What's everyone's opinion on these. they are 15" American Racing Hopsters with 255/70 rear 225/70 front. They kind of fit the truck. My original plan and still may do is a set of 20" wheels and tires. Steve

Some more progress I made this week. I got the aluminum panel back with carpet on back from the trim shop and installed it, installed the carpet, kick panels, sill plates, and mocked up the panels for the door trim that will get covered in leather and carpet. I also finished the tail pipes. Steating to come together. Steve
