Fixing radiator shroud
 

So a few years ago the top mounting ears were broken off of my radiator shroud. Now that the blazer is back on the road I need to either fix and reinstall or get a new shroud. Wondering if a plastic welder would work? Not sure what the shroud is made of.

Super glue and baking soda , I've used it to repair center consol cracks and a ton of other plastic parts . :chevy:

I have the same issue and plan on using polypropylene strips and a heat gun to "weld" a replacement corner back on.

If you have a local body shop that uses the 3M Automix plastic repair it should take about 20 min. The stuff is a two part mix and you use an adhesion promoter on the surface. Sticks like it never broke!The stuff is a little pricey and you need an applicator gun but the shop would only use a small amount so they should not charge much. At my shop if someone came in with that I would just do it and say "Catch you next time."

JB weld on mine, overlapping is important. Holds up to heat and other road crap.

If you want looks just overlap, sand and paint.

I used a two part mix called PC-7 I got at Ace Hardware when I repaired my 4x4 shroud. The mount tabs were split/cracked and I used an piece from a salvage yard shroud cut to fit then liberally "glued" it with the PC-7. Been repaired for several years and no problem. Also used the PC-7 for a dash repair on my '71 Chevelle with another overlay. Still holding tight after several years. Just a thought, good luck with your repair. :chevy:

I ended up using the super glue and baking soda. Seems tough enough. Not pretty but has been on for a few trips to town and hasn’t broke yet

This is the thread where I first heard about the super glue and baking soda trick from Grumpy old man. Both the top mounting ears were broken off of my radiator shroud and I finally got around to fixing it last weekend. Near the bottom of the shroud it had some minor broken up areas, and I removed a small piece of the plastic from there to make new ears. Super glue and baking soda, it sure is great. I've used it to repair a lot of stuff around the house and a few things on the truck.
