Amp Research step wiring

I added AMP power steps to the 1985 blazer.

I have the wiring all completed on the passenger side via the door courtesy light switch. When i pulled the door switch (unscrewed) from the door frame, i only saw a single white wire, which i pulled off the switch and added the purple trigger wire from the amp power step harness with a new connector. Installed switch back to the door frame, and connected the positive and negative from the harness to the battery. open door, step goes down. close door, (courtesy light goes back off) and step retracts in. Working GREAT!

Now for the driver side. Pulled the courtesy light switch and there is a tan and a white wire, and no matter what wire i connect the other purple trigger wire for the driver side to, the passenger side will trigger and go up and down as well as the driver side. Any suggestions?

The courtesy circuit is common for both doors on your truck. Easiest thing to do is install a diode at each step connection to the courtesy light circuit. The diode only allows the circuit to flow in one direction preventing each side from interacting with the other. Many of the Amp kits supply the diodes and have instructions for install. You can get the diode kit from Amp.

Ahhh! Now that you say that I remember seeing a post about the diode install. Thank you soooo much. Does 1 diode go on the purple wire (and purple w/black stripe wire) that runs to each door switch?

Posted and deleted a couple of posts because something did not look right in my diagram. This diagram should work, smarter dc wiring people feel free to correct me. Do this to both sides.

I thought those steps came with magnet switches...
