Parking Brake Cables
 

I am trying to source out a pair of rear parking brake cables, mine are seized. The truck is a 1972 2500 longbox smallblock with leafsprings.

My local parts store cannot get them, and online I have seen every combination of parking brake cable possible (big block, coil, longhorn, half ton) with the exception of mine... btw I get why the Longhorn or coil spring ones might be different, but why would the type of engine block matter?

Anyway, I am located in Canada and am not in any particular hurry but if someone can recommend a supplier that has them in stock I would be grateful.

I just purchased a full set of stainless steel replacement cables for my 72 blazer. I’ll have to check but I either purchased them from in-line tube or GMC Paul’s. You can buy the individual pieces. I know your vehicle is not a blazer but they listed numerous sets for different vehicles.

If you are unable to find them at those couple of places I will double check my stock and see where I purchased them from. They had them in regular steel like factory and stainless steel which I Purchased because my vehicle sits a lot.

I purchased this set from Rock auto for my 72 C20 coil sprung had to adjust the ends a bit to make it fit they clamped it a bit to far up the cable

i was under my 70 K20 the other day cables looked exactly the same as the ones I pulled out of my 72 same length same style

Thanks, I would prefer to buy from GMC Paul, but if he does not have them the Rockauto one is worth a try too. Appreciate the replies.

Here are a couple off photos before and after adjusting the end of the brake cable.

Many of the parts are interchangeable between models some times you have to make a judgment call and try the part to fit

What is the length of your PB cable. Rock auto lists 2 cables, one is 41" long and the other is 39 9/16" long. It is the same part # for either GMC or Chevy. 41 " is #18P2301 and 39 9/16" is 18P2300. I was thinking the difference in length might be between a coil spring suspension and a leaf spring suspension.

I ordered the 42-3/8" cables (raybestos BC92505) for my 1970 longbed C10 with rear leaf springs and they were the same length/ends as the ones I took off.

They also have an acdelco # for 42-3/8". The shorter ones are probably for coil spring trucks.

The long/short bed difference is in the "intermediate" cable length.

Also if you have a big block or bigger transmission there might be changes as the intermediate cable has to go across under the front of the trans.

Mine is a 350 SBC with the muncie SM330 tott trans.

As I haven't put them on yet, I can probably dig out the old/new and photo them together if needed.

Found the old and new rear brake lines I mentioned in my last post.

These are for a long bed C10 on rear leaf springs.
