'78 GMC plow truck restomod

Here's my 1978 GMC K25 4x4 I bought back in October :gmc2:

It has a 4-bolt main 350, Muncie SM465 transmission, NP250 transfer case, Dana 44 front axle and a 14-bolt full floater rear. Cab is completely shot but the frame is immaculate so I forked over $500 and trailered it home with only 3 wheels turning. :new:

The day after I got it home I started cleaning all the sh*t out of the bed (believe me there was a LOT) and Lo and Behold!! A matching set of 16.5 American Racing steel wheels buried under that mess! :metal:

Over the next few weeks I started taking things apart. The first big day in the project came when I brought home the new cab. The picture is very dark but you can still see the cab in the back of my old Mopar ;)

The next step was to take the bed off. You won't believe how clean the frame is. And here's my two old girls <3

The plan is to jack it up 6 inches and make it a pulling/mud truck. Basically it's getting redone from the tires up to the cab lights.

Update: Pulled the motor and tranny, degreased the frame (frame is now about half painted)

Scored a freshly rebuilt motor with 11:1 flat tops and a pretty hot cam for $400. The bad economy sure is nice when you're buying!

I also have a recently rebuilt 2wd Muncie transmission and a NP205 out of an International Travelall, so these will be going in the truck. Anyone ever done a divorced transfer case sawp?

I had never looked up the casting numbers on the original block - 3951511 - yes folks it's a 400! Damn and the replacement I bought is a 350 :banghead:

Your still good. You just need a different flywheel and balancer.
