Power circuit probe thoughts

I've been searching for electrical fault tracing tools other than just a test light and i wanted to get some feedback from anyone who has used a circuit tester probe.

These units are powered from the battery or cig lighter and can supply 12 and 24 AC, DC to a circuit.

Do they sell wireless units that run off a battery? I feel the cord will be a pain.

I've had several power probes over the years and I absolutely love them. I haven't broken down and gotten the latest one yet that can do resistance and all the other stuff. I doubt you'll find one cordless because the cord is to hook the unit to the vehicle's battery. If you didn't have a cord the power source would have to be integrated into the tool. The cord really isn't that bad to navigate around IMO. These are so darn handy. I rarely use a conventional test light anymore for troubleshooting. The nice thing about the probe is being able to apply power or grounds to a circuit. It will also tell you if you are dealing with a complete or open circuit. The hook units actually have an adapter to help isolate open/broken/shorted wires.

Replaced that tool box drawer of long jumper wires I used in the '80's and '90's

Funny I found this thread. I was looking at the Power Probes. I was considering getting a Power Prove IV. Are they easy for a novice to use?

Read the instructions/watch the videos, they are a very capable tool and well worth it, even a basic one for doing simple circuit tests. They are invaluable in a fleet isolating power and ground issues on trailer lights, having a known good power and ground is amazing. I absolutely love mine, have one at work and one at home.
