Holley Oil pan 5 or 6 Qts

I recently bought a Holley 302-1 oil pan and the recommended by Holley dip stick and tube for my LS engine in a 68 C10. I usually fill the filter then put in all but 1 qt., start the engine , check for leaks then sneak up on the final qt. while checking the dip stick. Well the instructions say 6. qts with a filter so I filled the filter and installed it then put in the remaining oil from a 5 qt. container and when I checked it it was full? Holley says 6 qts but....... I called Holley tech and they were baffled but didn't have an explanation. Has anyone here used this oil pan or the 302-2 or 302-3??

Why change the dip stick I would have used the one that went to the motor I used a truck oil pan but kept the dip stick that went to my motor that way I know that the oil level is correct to the motor regardless of what the pan holds

Not sure if this situation is the same, but in my case, the dipstick that came with the motor was too long for the pan that I switched to. I have a Speed Engineering low profile pan that I swapped to - Had to get a different dipstick (shorter) and tube to use. The truck pan is much deeper, therefore the dipstick is too long for those of us that swap the pans out.

My understanding is it will be 6 quarts total after you install filter run engine then top it off

I am looking at the Holly pan as well for my build I was looking at the knock off ones they shot up in price probably made in the same factory just no logo

How do you like the fit and finish ?
Been seeing a few post holly pans may come with missing parts

Oil is in ran the engine. 5 qts full. Very nice pan, very good quality. They have a recently new pan for the C10 302-3. My center link is very close to the pan but works fine. If I were to tilt the engine a little more up at the back I would have contact with the pan and center link. If I had to do it over I'd go for the 302-3. It wasn't available when I bought the 302-1.

The engine has no bearing on the dip stick, you use the stick for the pan, period. As stated other pans have different capacities, you stick a shallow pan on with a long stick and then it shows full when you have 3 quarts in it...

I do but this site requires a third party URL to post pics and I don't use one. Sorry.

Right next to "post quick reply" under quick reply bubble. Clicking on the "quote" button gets you to the same area. Scroll down to additional options area. Click on "manage attachments"

Nice truck! I have found unless you edit and save photos in paint the turning can happen. Always check with preview before posting. Some have said if you take pics with phone in portrait mode (sideways) they will upload correctly from phone. Wish I could help with your pan question. I used a GM muscle car pan on my LSA and it included a new dipstick. Was different than the one on my motor. I installed the new dip stick.

Thanks, I have a call into Holley about the pan. As far as the sideways picture goes I thought it would be easier for you to turn your head than for me to figure out how to fix it!:lol::lol:
