paint trick - anyone ever seen it on a truck?

I've seen a few cars at shows recently that had incredibly realistic chrome trim painted on in the place of the actual trim (i.e. no chrome trim, the body was perfectly smooth, and from 3 feet away, you could not tell that the painted on chrome trim was actually just painted on).

Seems the trim on our trucks would be a great candidate for this trick of the eye. Has anyone ever seen it on a 60-66? (painted on side trim with whit insert??)

There was a 72 in Custom Sport truck mag (I think or maybe it was another mag) a while back that was 2 tone blue with a white middle and the trim was airbrushed on. It looked like real trim till you seen a close up pic.
