The Great White Landshark

Well I've now hit winter and Newtype will have to hibernate and get her beauty rest for the spring shows coming so that calls for me finding a new daily driver to use while she gets prettied up so insert family heirloom here. This would be as what I call the Great White Landshark essentially a severely lowered for it's time 91 crew cab 2wd dually. Bought and built by my father back in 1991 - early 1993 as in the truck that was driving me around when I was just barely born. She's originally a 79 crew cab 1-ton dually, with the exception of a 91 (brand new at the time) Chevy front clip all Goodmark built parts interior and exterior. Heartplant would be a 454 Chevy Big Block with a degreed back agressive cam if that makes sense to everyone. Married to a Turbo 400 tranny that runs to a mean Dana-70 rear end. (not sure of gearing) Anyway She was built tough to pull the family travel trailer at the time and did very well pulling the hills and flat she didn't care she did 8-9 mpg solid back when you could afford gas it wasnt so bad. So now here she is again smog free on registration and ready to rock and roll after a 7 year hiatus. SO enjoy the pictures I'll try to sum up the build best as possible if you have any questions please feel free to ask as I'm in the process of tuning her back into daily form once more thank you - Dylan

The headlights are probably chevy celebrity they are a common swap in 3rd gen camaros and the g bodies too.

Re: The Great White Landshark

Knew those would be popular and yes I believe Andrew hit em in the head they are car headlights it was a popular swap to do then but the kit was expensive so he found out what they used and just bought the lights himself.

And yes she did clean up very well no bad for 20 year old eurocoat single stage white with no clear huh?

Pulled the driveline last night she had a horrendous vibration when getting up to speed and it was the u joints at the rear of the two piece driveline. You could take them and push and pull a 1/4" each direction no Bueno for a DD so I have my dad running that to our driveline guys shop to get it repaired quick and easy

What do you plan to do about the MPG? That is pretty much an anchor now days. Truck looks great for her age and what she was asked to do for all those years.

Re: The Great White Landshark

Nothing for now It'll only be driven ten miles minimum to work and back durin the week so I really don't see the huge loss. Most people cry about mpg's whereas I don't mind ill save the mileage in the summers on the bike. And yes she really does im amazed the paint held up so well when there is factory chevy 90's body style trucks running a full clear/paint chipped hoods and fenders

Slapped my re-done driveline back in tonight with the new u-joints NO VIBRATION AT ALL ANYMORE love it best 32$ I ever spent and the guy gave me the better brand for more than half off gotta love good friends in good places. However i did find a gaping 3/8 diameter hole in my driver side header which is a big bummer so I'm gonna try and get that out saturday or sunday to have welded up monday by a professional.

Re: The Great White Landshark

Welp this weekend was my chores weekend had to do a special errand for this coming week and that will be revealed on the 25th so stay tuned for that. But I also got all the junk from the bed out of the truck had a lot I parts stored in there and raising one inch doesn't sound like a lot but remember shes a 1-ton so that's a lot of weight difference back there. Anyways I went ahead and finally took off the driver side header found out the joint of the two middle tubes where it y's from two to 1 was cracked all the way around and chipped out a hole so I'm hoping it can be repaired as for the process of takin that out it took me 5 hours solid takin of the a/c compressor oil filter oil pressure canister all driver side spark plugs and finally removing the motor mount bolt to wiggle that devilish thing free what a PITA that was I'm for sure doin block hugging shorties from here on out. Also robbed some front door lock cylinders and passenger side mirror since my glad fell out on the old one getting the cylinders keyed to match the ignition will have pics of everything tonight

Re: The Great White Landshark

Well wether ruined my weekend basically but I did manage to paint the driver side header and prep it to be ready for tomorrow morning also grabbed up some ac Delco spark plugs to replace the old worn out ones so here's some picture of the header before and after the fix. All work done by a fab guy I know in the area.

Re: The Great White Landshark

Got the motor all back together today only took me about 4 hours total or so was able to set the motor back on the mount with the bolt back in and set the header up in within the first hour by myself mind you this was quite a task running back and forth or in my case sliding and standing and kneeling. What a PITA this all was :waah: but I got the job done sealed the new header with a new collector gasket along with copper header gasket. Cleaned up the area and swapped all the old plugs for new ones pictures below even found one that was not even close to being with the others  also found the trouble maker plug wire that sliced the wire inside and was just sitting there on the plug :uhmk: (yes I enjoy these smiles because they replicate what I was looking like throughout the day) finally got the AC/Compressor back up into place with the bracketry that's a big heavy pig right there. buttoned up some hose lines that were cut still need to snip and plug the pass. side smog rails but i have the main exit tube blocked so no hissing for now. had my dad help out in the last hour and got the new plug wire on along with a gas line underneath that was leaking like a sive. Also got my re-keyed door locks back in (truck has been parked in front of the house for a month almost without the doors being locked I feel lucky  So heres some pictures from today not a whole bunch I took but kind of an idea thanks for checking in -Dylan

Not much to update she's pretty much dead in the water at this point driveline has an issue and is still loose in the yoke of the rear end so I sent the driveline back to see if there was an issue. So here's a picture of my two lovely ladies together to satiate the non-progess
