78 GMC K25 "build".
I have had this 78 K25 GMC for about six years now. I got it just goof off with and work on here and there. So far thats all thats been done. It was my DD for a while, and now its just a yard debris/junk yard runner. But i plan to change that over the next little while.
I plan on doing a tuff country ex ride 2" lift in the front, 56" spring swap in the rear with an ORD 2.5" shackle flip. Hoping it ends up level. Then i'll do some 255/85-16 toyo MT's on the steel wheels. I got a new bed for it to fix up and replace the one thats on there. Around that time i will also fix the few rust spots on the cab and paint it. For now, here is a bunch of pics. Pics from the original CL add. http://coloradok5.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1237528790 http://coloradok5.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1237528790 http://coloradok5.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1237528790 http://coloradok5.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1237528790 Swapped the tires out for the ones on my burb, http://coloradok5.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1238992573 Left the door open one time, http://coloradok5.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1292311722 And found the my taking a nap in there... http://coloradok5.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1292311722 More in a sec. |

And lastly for now, one of my more favorite and recent pics, Just got done emptying a load of rock out of the bed.
http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/t...pskgxen5jz.jpg So follow along as i continue to goof off with the truck and hopefully start the more serious part of the "build" soon. |
Re: 78 GMC K25 "build".
that is a sweet GMC. looking forward to more!
i had an '80 K30 with that same burnt orange and white paint. love the look |
Re: 78 GMC K25 "build".
Thanks! Me too! Its somewhat unique and i think its pretty timeless! Im dieing to get heavy onto this project! DirtyLarry on here has me dreaming of an 8.1l but logic says i'll just drop a 5.3 in like i did with the burb. We'll see. That phase is probably next winter after i get the paint and body stuff done.

Re: 78 GMC K25 "build".
Hey, glad to see you started a thread. Nice truck, and cool that you've gotten to use it so much already. I got to drive mine on/off the trailer - that's about it. I'll be following along on yours.

Re: 78 GMC K25 "build".
Somehow i skipped the part where i swapped out these seats for a normal bench. The seats were ok but not what i wanted. I seem to not have a pic of the bench?

Re: 78 GMC K25 "build".
That’s truck is looking great! She is a clean survivor that is for sure. Surprised you didn’t like those buckets over a bench. I usually don’t like aftermarket seats but anything has to be better than the factory bench.

Re: 78 GMC K25 "build".
I don't know what it was about them that I really didn'tlike but they just ddidn't do it for me. I sold them for a good chunk of change and got the new bench for free. A long time ago, I had a truck with a stock bench that had been recovered in carhart material. I really liked it and I think that's probably what I'll do with this.

Re: 78 GMC K25 "build".
Also, now that our Halloween party is over, I'll be getting more serious on this truck pretty quick. First thing is to start body work on the new bed. I just can't decide if I want to do a single stage urethane or if I wantto do a base/clear setup! Nothing looks worse than a 10 year old base clear job tthat's starting to show its age. But from what I gather, it's much easier to make a base/clear job look good. Aperently, single stage metallics are hard to do for a first timer.

Re: 78 GMC K25 "build".

Re: 78 GMC K25 "build".
I had pushed the "new" bed out into the side yard to clear the way for our haloween party fastivites. Between then and now the lawn got really wet and made it impossible to push the cart accross the grass. So i enlisted the help of the quad. Worked great!
http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/t...pspq4ujbbv.jpg Then once it was back in my tiny garage i officially got started on the bed. Didnt get much done but this morning i got the trim off and cleaned up the side so that i can start in on the body work. http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/t...psizhuqbzt.jpg |
