ok to answer my own questions. THAT CAM IS THE 1960S 327 GRIND. Not bad for 50 bucks from rock auto. I think I want to go one stage taller and get a sligthly taller stall converter.

If you still have stock 350 heads and stock compression (8.2?), the engine is going to be nothing special for performance in your truck. The 222/222 cam is too much duration for low compression and low flow stock heads. High stall converter and lower gears will help, but the real fix is to have more compression.

In its original form that cam was used with an engine with about 10.5 compression, which worked well, but later engines had more emissions controls and much lower compression. That is why the SBC 250/290 HP crate engine (which uses the same cam and low compression) is not a good choice for a heavy truck.
