My Dad's 1970 CST/10 Comes Home With Me
5 Attachment(s)
A very emotional day yesterday. My Dad has owned this 1970 CST/10 since 1976. It has a pretty snotty 350 in it with a T-10 4-speed and a Hurst floor shift. Anyone who lived in my hometown of Orting, WA since then knows this truck. A lot of my friends rode in this truck. Usually all piled in the back! :)
It's always been fast and loud and it will remain that way. It's the rig that started my love for hot rod cars and trucks from when I was a little kid. I was 8 years old when he bought this rig. Sitting in the cab of that thing and watching Dad bang through the gears was always so awesome for us kids! One things for sure Dad could speed shift and bark rubber at will. Thanks Dad for an amazing truck that I have cherished since the day you brought it home. Dad and I always kidded around that I was gonna buy his truck one day. Well, I was more than happy to trade him my '06 Silverado for this truck so he would still have a truck to use. It's amazing how a big ol' hunk of metal can instill so much emotion and memories. And it will continue to make memories for years to come. Driving it home yesterday as I merged on to the highway headed North, a flood of emotions hit me. As I rowed through the gears I was hauling a$$ with tears running down my cheeks and a big smile from ear to ear. One thing my Mom used to tell us kids growing up... "No matter where your Dad is in town. I always know when he's coming home, because I can hear him start that truck and take off." Now that's small town livin'! Thanks again Dad! Gary |

Few more pics...
In one pic you'll notice there are 2 tachs in the truck. Dad installed that column mounted tach back when he first bought it because the stock tach didn't work. Then when he switched over to an HEI ignition around 1995 or so, the stock tach started working. So he just swung the column mounted tach to where it is now. :) Gary |

Awesome story and congrats brother! Glad you and your dad were able to share the moment and continue to make memories. My truck story is very similar to yours. My dad had a 70 short bed the bought new. I was born in 81 so it's been in my life my entire life. It is the first vehicle I ever drove and I learned to drive a manual in it. Also used to sit in dads lap and steer. He gave me the truck in December of 2019 and I started a restoration on it. We are almost finished and I can't wait to see my dad drive it again. Here is a before and a where we are today picture. Dad is sitting in it acting like he is driving. Thanks for the story and hopefully I don't hijack your thread.

Now that is cool! My pops still has the 58 Apache he bought in 1970 (the truck I grew up in), and someday it will be mine :)

Great story brought a tear, when out in garage today my youngest called wishing a Happy Easter. Asked what I was doing said cleaning up throwing some junk away. I made a statement someday you all will have to go thru this stuff, he said you know what I want. So he will probably get the truck

Enjoyed hearing your story. It's got me thinking, I need to decide what I plan to do
with my two trucks when the time comes. I have two wonderful sons-in-law. So I need to get my plan on paper. Thank you |
Re: My Dad's 1970 CST/10 Comes Home With Me
Awesome story! I wish I could have gotten my dads 71 K10; he sold it in the mid 90’s after it started rusting a few years after he did a full resto. I do still have my 57 that he and I put together while I was in highschool. My kids will have the opportunity to take all of my trucks and probably the Camaro too when the time is right. I hope to build a 67-72 for each of my kids as they are approaching driving age. I’m only short 1 truck at this point.

Re: My Dad's 1970 CST/10 Comes Home With Me
Thats an awesome and kool story. I'm willing to bet 90% of us on this forum have a similar story and history of our beloved trucks. I also believe this is true no matter what manufactures badge is on it, not just bow ties. Don't chush them, restore them. Mine, Papa's old Lorry, was also my dads. Cruze safe fellas.

Re: My Dad's 1970 CST/10 Comes Home With Me
That is a great story and a great looking truck!
Love the picture of your Dad signing over the title! ...Mine! Mine! Mine! My title says I've owned my truck for 26 years as of March 29th. Hopefully I'll see yours on the highway around here sometime. |
Re: My Dad's 1970 CST/10 Comes Home With Me
Dropped and slotted...what a gift!
With an even better story behind it, which is the most important part! Nowhere better for that truck to be! |
Re: My Dad's 1970 CST/10 Comes Home With Me
Very nice of your dad to give you his truck
I have my dads 72 k10 planing on getting it running with more hp then he did with his hot 350 he had in it back in the early 70s i was aiming for last summer complications with my broken leg has kept projects on halt Like 57taskforce i am starting to collect more trucks to have an assortment to help the kids build there first truck |
Re: My Dad's 1970 CST/10 Comes Home With Me
What a great story. Super happy for you that you could receive something that would continue to bring joy to your family for more generations.
I wish my dad would have held onto some of the cars/trucks he had when I was growing up. The 1971 GMC short 4x4, the 1969 Nova SS, the 1969 Chevelle SS convertible, the GTO, oh how it pains me to think of them. |
Re: My Dad's 1970 CST/10 Comes Home With Me
Great story, I can see where your dads truck was an inspiration in the style of your other truck. Totally awesome! :metal:

It's a special thing when a truck/car is passed from dad to son . Heres to many years of enjoyment .
I inherited my dad's 64 Studebaker Hawk he bought new in spring of 65 . Me at my sons wedding they used the car as the bridal car in 2019 . So my dad was there in spirit |
