Planning on doing route 66 in my 49 chevy 5 window. Thinking about getting a yeti roadie 20 for drinks and snacks and then can refill at motels along the way. Anybody know how much they weigh when full of ice. I have a 65 qt pelican but that is too big. I want something small that i can carry inside a motel room at night and store in the cab when doing day excursions. Plan on doing this pretty light weight. Back pack full of clothes, my Ipad. I figure I can eat out for dinner or lunch at a famous diner or restaurant for most big meals, but for snacks and drinks along the way I think the roadie would be pretty good fit. I do have a hopper 30 but its soft sided, i think the 20 would be cool to put stickers on a long the way.

Anybody have any attractions that I should see or do? Any good places to stay the night at? Any place I should avoid? Im going to do it in reverse Santa Monica to Chicago and then take 80 back to SF. Im planning on doing it in 10 days or so.

i think the roadie weighs about 15lbs or so when empty...buddy of mine has one..
dad has one of the soft yetis...he likes it

I have a hopper 30 and a pelican 65. I need the hard one so i can lock it in bed. But the 65 would be way too big.

We enjoyed the Painted Desert/Petrified Forest, now on I-40 and had a great meal at El Falcone "on the corner in Winslow Arizona". Also stopped in at Bozo's in Santa Rosa NM, he has some show cars and memorabilia to see. Last 2 both on 66.

That cooler weighs 12.8 lbs dry. Reviews are mixed for a 200 buck cooler.

One did say that it does not have a drain plug making draining any water a pain.

Im looking at the 1st gen one thats a bit shorter and has a drain plug.

I never paid any attention to the brand but they are showing up in a couple of places I shop at lately. The local Cabella's has them as does the local Coastal Farm and Ranch store. I have a collection of Igloo coolers of way too many sizes but I get the this one is too heavy loaded thing.

Started yesterday at 5 am after trying to fix the starter I think the solenoid is going bad. It's got a mind of its own and needs to whacked every few times. Made it to the pier which was packed then drove all the way to the grand canyon so I could get the sun rise today. Hit Winslow and the petrified Forrest NP. WASTE OF TIME!! just got into Albuquerque NM.

Trucks mad at me won't start when hot even after tapping on the starter. Thinking I might back track to Santa Rosa to go to Bozos garage and wrecker. He got some decent reviews. I made it to Tucumcari and staying at the Blue Swallow a very nice motel!!

Haven't hit snow yet!! Took my truck to Chauncys in Amarillo and he took care of me. In OKC now. Did the Cadillac ranch it was ok more of graffiti

I did it I made it to Midway to pick up my dad from the airport then we went to lakeshore to finish up the rest of Route 66. My original plan before I knew he was going to fly out was to do 80/ Lincoln highway back to CA. Then when he said he was coming we were going to do r66 back but now we have decided to do Field Of Stand in Iowa then head to Mt Rushmore over to Yellowstone then maybe slc or Denver to CA

Yea alot of thumbs up. Now that I'm with my dad lot more people with gray hair coming up to us talking like I'm not even here lol. But lots of thumbs up. My backs a bit sore from this bench seat but I'm still having fun

I've been trying to do this trip for a couple of years ,always some delay , last year was the covid lock down . If the borders open by the September I'm heading to L.A. along rt.66 , Ocean highway to Frisco then Lincoln Hwy. home to Canada .

Looks like a great time. Gotta say, it's tough not to imagine firing up the '57 and heading west for a long drive.

I used to go to Yellowstone every year. If you go at this time of year you can really focus on the park. The traffic is very bad in warmer months and its tough to enjoy the drive. It's still early though so the weather can play a huge part in the quality of the trip.

I've been to Mt Rushmore twice. Fog and rain both times. Luckily they sell nice pictures at the gift shop.

Anything with Cali plates east of the Missippi has "legendary" status automatically. Folks will swarm a diesel Chevette to see how amazingly un-rusty it is while telling stories about "seeing one once" like it's an original ZL1 Camaro.

Those Caddies at Cadillac ranch have so much paint on them from graffiti it doesn't even dry. Cool trip though, planning on doing this in my 52 when the time comes.

I hope to head out mid September as my 62 panel has no AC and get back home early to mid November . If this doesn't happen We'll try again about Mid April next year .
We have many stops we'd like to do along the way .
