ok another answer the the eternal wiper arm thread :D

Ok guys been doing some research in my off time and found an alternative that requires a lil work but according to guys that are using this mod it works fantasticly!!!! Jeep Cherokee 84-95 rear wiper arms use a 1/2 inch knurled post parts number 42873 at oreillys double check me on it since my truck is far away from this yet. But two friends arm using them after mods and quite happy with the results :D
next:
steps one by one to make the mod
the wiper "rod" on one arm needs turned 180 degrees to match the stock on
pictures to follow of the steps :D

first step two wiper arms I got junkyard ones for my initial experiments but aftermarket has them available readily since the jeeps are popular :D

second step drill out the rivet on the arm you are to modify for the swap. You can see where I flattened out the spring mount curve with a hammer it needs to be rebent the other direction when the arm is turned

ok next step remount the arm 180 degrees in the frame and use a 4-40 bolt to secure it in place

finished mount and grab a new off the shelf set of wiper arms :D 13 inch arms work but these are shorter so you may be able to use 14 inch blades as well... Going to do this for my truck when I get it there and post blade parts numbers for yall

It's my truck. 14" should work just fine. Really good upgrade to bring it to modern day reliable wipers that can be replaced every year easily now.

Thank you sdwolff98 for making this write up. I was looking all over for this exact upgrade/build. That makes everything easier for finding wiper blades and reliability. If you guys could make it a sticky I am sure other people would love it too.

Thank you for the tip. I just did this on my 64 today and love it. It works really well to me on mine since I do not have any stainless windshield trim/moldings. The black just fits right in.

Thanks again man.

Re: ok another answer the the eternal wiper arm thread :D

I went to the local pick a part yard last Friday because of this thread. I was able to find 2 Cherokee's that still had the rear wipers on them. $10 later I have a set to start with. Once I get some shop time, I will update my thread with my version of this swap.

Thanks for the information. I was not sure what I was going to do for wipers on my truck. Mine have been MIA for over a decade...

I did this on mine.
I have owned it for over 35 years, wipers have never worked better.

Aggie :D its a great thing to be able to get wiper blades easily now. Only thing that makes me laugh about this is that the circled automotive problem child pointed the way to this solution ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just did this on my 65. These are the same wipers they use for early Bronco wiper swaps so I had a few sets in the garage.
Quick and Easy, wipers work great!

Was just at the junkyard yesterday getting parts for my '96 3500, and looked for some.
Besides Jeeps, these are also on the backs of some Mopar minivans.

I was only looking at Jeeps today and found one. I'll modify it for the left and then find another for the right. Good work to the person who started this.

whats the advantage of this over stock replacement? just curious

vince1 07-13-2018 08:03 PM

Re: ok another answer the the eternal wiper arm thread :D

The replacements I got didn't fit properly and kept falling off, hence another use for gorilla glue.

BFD305 07-13-2018 08:58 PM

Re: ok another answer the the eternal wiper arm thread :D

@karlbenz The two advantages I see are they take a standard wiper, and they have more pressure on to the window so they wipe better. I think I have a couple extra sets if anyone is looking.

sdwolff98 07-21-2018 12:06 PM

Re: ok another answer the the eternal wiper arm thread :D

Karl,
I like these for the simple fact you can walk into any store and buy wiper blades also as BFD says they apply better pressure to the blades so they wipe better. You can get em at junkyards for about 5 bucks a piece or orders new pretty ones for about 25 a piece
Brad,
Good to know that one also :D

thanks for the input. I haven't had any issues yet but if I do I will look into that. good to know. (update) I may look harder into it seeing I could use longer wiper blades

Has anybody figured out a different wiper motor that is faster that possibly would work ??
Using stock or different internal arms??

Re: ok another answer the the eternal wiper arm thread :D

Red I have not played with any no.. I bought the newport wiper kit for my truck lol. I have heard on the flat firewall you can use a 73-87 motor but not on the ones with the bucket style motor mounts.
