64 vs 66 e-brake

Hello,
I'm in the process of cleaning up a 66 short frame with the intention of moving my 64 body over. I see the e-brake assemblies are different. My 66 frame has the rod through the frame on the passenger's side, but it's in pretty rough shape and I can't seem to find any other parts to rebuild this. So, figured the 64 brake works and I have new 64 cables, I'll just move the crossmember over. I haven't taken any measurements yet to drill holes, but did notice a set of holes close to the crossmember position on the 66 frame. Then noticed they're is an extra set of unused holes (possibly matching the 66, again I haven't measured) on the 64.

I'm just curious what those extra holes are, and is there any reason I can't just move the 64 crossmember over to the 66? Or are the 66 parts available somewhere and easy to replace?

I had no idea there were some many little differences in the 64-66 trucks till I started this.

Thanks!

Shoot me a PM. Have some E brake parts so probably would be able to help you out some at least.

66 ebrake system is considered better.
Here is a good thread:

Thanks for the link. I had just found and read through that whole thread. Since I have the 66 frame, I'm going to go with the later simpler setup. I have tubular control arms with brackets for the rear cables. I wasn't aware the bracket location was different and they don't specify years. I'll have to measure.

Also, I had been looking at the LMC diagram, but it only shows the cables for the 66. I need the hooks, and my guide rod is pretty mangled. In that thread someone mentioned 67-72 parts are all the same as 66. LMC sells a guide kit for 67-72. So, figure I'll get the guide kit and different cables and see what I can do.

Edit: I measured the cable brackets on my tubular arms. That are the same as the brackets on the original 66 arms. So, I think I'm good. I'm curious how the 67+ guide rod from LMC attaches, since the original 66 is riveted, but I think I'll go ahead and order and find out.

Thanks.

Cant remember if for LWB or SWB or if they are the same?

I think, from what I've read, the only difference in LWB and SWB is the intermediate cable.

Upon closer inspection, I see the piece on the end of the long rod is pinched preventing it from coming off the rod, which then allows the rod to slip out of the frame. I'm sure that is the only reason I still have it on this frame. 😄

DPowers: Please remember that PM sales are prohibited. If you are offering up the parts to closer9 for free, that's ok though.

Thanks!

Good deal, thank you. I might've been a little pre-emptive with my comment

On my 66, the cable seemed a little loose and I couldn't get the slack adjusted enough with the stock adjuster. So I replaced that rod with a piece of all-thread and a couple nuts & washers, and just tightened it to take up the slack.

I wasn't looking to buy anything here. Just wasn't sure how the two differed. It appears from another thread that what I need is available new, I just wasn't look in the right place.

LostMy65, that's what I was first considering when I saw the mangled rod in my 66 frame. 😀👍

Looks like you can get the 66-72 e-brake stuff new here also:https://www.classicparts.com/1966-72...tinfo/71-770/#

Thanks! I sure thought I checked Classic Parts, but didn't see that.

Edit: it was Classic Industries I checked.

Re: 64 vs 66 e-brake

One more quick question... there is a bracket on the driver's side. Somewhat tapered with maybe a 1/2" hole, 2 rivets in the frame, maybe 8" long. My 64 has it, but not being used. 66 has it as well. I've seen pix of it being used as an exhaust hanger. Is the the original purpose?
