Who's rolling on 157" wheel base C30's?

Lets see the 157 inch wheel base C30 rides. Campers, flatbeds, what have you.

Not looking to see trucks that started at 157 inch and were cut down or lengthened. I'm just curious who is enjoying them just as they came, cab and chassis with whatever it is you like behind the cab.

And I have a little bet with myself =)

Love the flatbed, great color combo.

I’ve been following the Blue Bomb 68bow. Coming along nicely.

Forgot to ask 1968C30 how long and wide is your flatbed, and do you have a side shot?

I had the '70 I put a Reading low-profile utility body on, but I always wondered if they didn't get me the medium duty model. It was bigger and bulkier than expected. I loved the truck for what it was was, but the bed was a huge disappointment. Not cheap either

Tim I’ve seen your truck many times and never knew it was a 157 inch wheel base

Re: Who's rolling on 157" wheel base C30's?

The utility bodies for those are 11'. Dumps and flatebeds, or high cube like rental trucks, were 12'. The short C/30s (133") had 9' utility and 10' dump/flat/cube... as standard. The body places go by CA, cab to axle measurement. That's back of cab to center of axle, 56"/60"/84" for the 127"/133"/157" wheelbases.

I loved working out of that thing. Big block/auto CST road like a Cadillac all loaded up. I was a siding contractor, so hauling aluminum/vinyl in 12'+/- boxes in the 11' bed with tiny 8" tailgate in a perfect rectangle compartment was perfect. Stuck out just enough to grab hold of the boxes. The ladder racks on pickups (LWB) are normally 12' and mine were 15'. So carried the 24' pump jack poles and aluminum walkboards from 18'-30' like a charm compared to a pickup. That thing was taylor-made for the job. I sure miss that thing.

For a much nicer looking cool truck, a narrow as the cab body would look much nicer... and be easier to drive in general. These dual wheel rears were made much narrower up through '72. The outer tire isn't that much wider than the front track. Narrower flatbeds look better on these. Mine was a low-profile but pretty sure for larger trucks. I know it wasn't a bolt-on for a fact. Other one ton bodies don't have 24" deep side bins. That was sure great for working out of. A 3500w generator fit in the front driver side bin. But it wasn't as low as one for a 1t either. The body companies on the West Coast make the bodies with lower profile, much easier for you in WA. I've wanted to 'import' one for tears but that is a major thing from finding to how it ships.

Anyway, picture mine without the bulk. With sides about the same as the cab width and top about the same as pickup bed. It's a cool look.

I am using a 157” frame, but moved the spring hangers forward.

You really need to get the right overhang in the rear or they look funny

I like the bobbed rear on a LWB C/30. It's just another truck configuration. With cab & chassis you are in the commercial truck realm and trucks are set up in any way that works best. So a dump truck, wrecker, or tow vehicle wants as little tail overhang as possible. They're just mini big trucks

Got to watch pictures of RVs and rollbacks. Many of those are stretched from the 157". I think this one isn't. In the truck body world the cab to axle measurement is 84', so 7', for one of these. A longbed PU is 56" and the SWB C/30s are 60". All brand LWB one tons are exactly 2' longer than the SWBs.

That pic is about 1-1/2 years old. Need to take a few more pics to update my folder. Diamond plate is on, hitch is welded underneath. Working on the aux fuel tank and the headache rack at the moment. Picked up a new battery just yesterday.

The amount of time and money I have into this is staggering. The truck started life as a Class B motor home. When I got it it was rotted out and not worth saving

Looks like the '70 I had that was a Winnebago. The camper had already been scrapped in '88 when I got it. But mine was a med. gold, black wheels, CST cab & chassis when I got it

Getting some more rolling in. Love to see the specs on your trucks as long as we’re at it. Plus some side shots would be great too.

I made the commitment to bring my last couple of projects home from where they are being stored by the end of this month. My C30 will be coming to my house. Im trying to find some good ideas on building a flatbed for it, but really not finding quite what Im looking for. I need to make the trip out to oldirons (Dennis) place and scope his out.

Ive also decided to remove everything inside that is Cheyenne Super and replace it with standard items. All the dark green interior will be replaced with black. Wood grain dash and glove box will be replaced with standard stuff. Headliner will be replaced with black, and a used not so great looking trim ring I have.

Going to pull the factory cruise also. Im not sure how but Id like to remove all the factory air stuff and just use regular heater/defrost, but am unsure if that's even doable.
