1965 frame and cab mount
Hey guys,
Things are lining up and I've got a 1990 Cummins lined up to try and drop my 1965 step side short bed onto. Now I'm just trying to gather as much information on doing the swap as possible, beings I've never done anything like this before lol. What I'm hoping for is as much information, dimensions, personal experience, and anything in regards to mounting the cab and body onto the dodge frame as possible. The stock information about the GMC is what im looking for. Pictures and diagram would be GREAT!!! Thanks for your time and wisdom guys. Nate. |
Re: 1965 frame and cab mount
Why not just drop the cummins into the c10 frame? It would be adviseable to box the frame tho.
Swaping the c10 onto the dodge frame will be very hard! Frame width alone will be hard to overcome, especially with your limited experience. Good luck tho!! |
Re: 1965 frame and cab mount
I agree on keeping your original frame and reinforcing as needed. A complete frame swap is not simple and it will be easy for you to become overwhelmed. I would also recommend doing some research on Cummins swaps in this body style of truck so that you are aware of the space limitations under the hood.

Re: 1965 frame and cab mount
Hey guys,
The only thing I've done is Internet research. And some guys say there is room and some say there is t u deer the hood. I did see where one guy put him body on the dodge frame. I also read that the cab mounts are only about 1/4 inch off of center on the dodge frame. That's why I thought it might be easier doing it that way. Also the dodge frame is already accepting of the dodge drive line. Just have to shorten the frame rails and figure out how to get the cab to sit in it. That's just the direction that my thoughts were going. I'd love to hear reasons to or not to. |

Re: 1965 frame and cab mount
One big reason to not switch frames is the possible legal issues arising from having a body and frame with different VIN's. Check with your local DMV and see what they have to say about it.
