I'm going to be following this thread a lot more closely now. I had a serious talk with my pops and he's handing over the keys to his 67 Firebird. It's originally an SC car, but went to NY in the mid 80's. My pops did a nice "home" restoration in the late 80's. The motor blew in the early 90's and life and kids got in the way for my dad to ever finish her again. He has a couple other irons in the fire, including the nice South Carolina '58 Apache shortbed I gave him last year (my very first truck that I started to restore but never actually drove it.)

Sorry to mess up your thread a bit, but I had to share my excitement with my fellow truck nuts. The car isn't great, but it's not a rusty POS either. The front clip was removed in the mid 90's and has been in dry storage ever since. It's gonna need the usual, some floor sections, rockers, lower quarters, etc... but I'm really excited, it's all there except for the drivetrain. I'll have a lot more rust to fix than you, but this car has never had a welder taken to it, so I won't have to deal with some of the mess you had to. This is THE car that got me into "cars." I was around 8 or 9 when my dad was working on it and I have a lot of memories helping dad put it back together and going for rides in it.

The car is in NY, so I hope to get it to SC next summer. These are the only current pics I have, my sister took them, so they kinda suck :lol:

That is awesome, and no you are not messing up this thread, it is herer for that, all of our enjoyment. Awfully nice of your pops to give the car to you. Hope you get it home!!!!

Noticed allot of your parts are from CPP how do you go about getting them up to Canada? I tried to order some stuff from them but the shipping is killer to the North.

See there I knew you weren't laying around home eating bon bons. J/K...The Camaro is coming along great! Just out of curiosity, how much would it cost me to buy all new floor pans, fenders, quarter panels for a 67 or 68? I am hoping to start on one of ours later this year and need to know how much to save for sheetmetal. You did say you were working on 3 of them right? They pretty much all need the same rust repair usually right?

You are right, no Bon Bons for this guy, just toffifee. It is coming along, but not as fast as i want, my arm stil hurts at times so i still have to take it easy on myself, swork is intermitent. As for your parts i up here i usually say around 3500 will buy you all the sheetmetal you need. Trust me, there is always unexpected stuff. and if you do buy sheetmetal, but the good stuff and spend the extra amount on it. You may not think that it is worth it at first, but it really is worth it in the end. And yes to be exact 4 of them. But this one gets done first!!!!!! Yup they are all about the same, trunk and floorpans, dropoffs, wheel tubs, quarters, tailpan, firewall, rockers, air vent boxes, and a couple more little things.

Ok, time for some explanation, i got rid of the rear side marker lights to start with, then i put in the Detroit Speed and Engineering weld in subframe connectors. They fit nice and will work great to turn the frame into one. Also i got the firewall cut out where all the rust was and now i am in the process of getting it back together. Kinda stock but not really. pics to follow later.

Thanks for the info about the sheetmetal. I just went over to Classic Industries and looked at their parts....Man, I will have to dig deep to fix these cars.

Now about the marker light filling. It looks really smooth! What did you use to weld the seam? It almost looks like you silver braze? The sub frame looks great too. This will be a super car when you get it done. As usual the fab and welds look good too. Keep me updated on the progress. :5150:

forgot to ask, where do you get the copper weld through primer?.. thanks

I just used my normal miller welder and ground it down then sanded it, then pick and filed the area for no warpage. And as for the front subframe i welded it al up for strenght. this car is gonna need it. 650 HP!!!!!

As for the copper weld thru primer, it is called U-POL weld #2 weld thru primer. It is by far superior over the zinc weld thru primer, the cost is a little more but it works way better. you should be able to get it at any autobody shop, but i am not sure down there, i know napa carries it, but that not where i get it. It is a european product but by far superior to anything that we have over here. i have used it for around 5 years now with zero trouble.

Well, I am not sure anymore if it will be done for the car show, but i will try, with my new job i am re-energized to work now that i am no longer working on cars all day, i can go home and my arm does not hurt now. It is great. Well as of now i have gotten more done on the car. I got the firewall All done, cleaned up and recessed for the engine. It will be fairly smooth when done. Once that was done i started on the front left door pillar and vent area.

Once i got the front done and cleaned up,I worked on the rear quarter panel and wheel arch and rear door jamb. Got that all done and cleaned up. Turned out fine. One spot warped on me thou, C$#@$%%^%!!!!!!!

I got the front pillar done on the other side also, so now i am officially down to roughly 7 little patches left on the shell. Getting there. whew. Also Thank you Tyer ( Tyler 58) for the help today. it was great.
