Engine tower differences

Can anyone tell me the difference between 6 cyl and 8 cyl engine towers? Or is it just the location that differs? Also is the frame drilled for both the 6 and 8 positions?

I recently bought a 69 SWB with no engine or trans and plan to install a 350/350 combo.

Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

I was wondering that same thing about my 67, that i'm putting a 400sb in. It had a 250 in it.

The 6 cyl & v8 stands are different stampings,& do also bolt down in different positions(all holes are in the frame). The v8 will bolt down on the 6/250 stands, but does leave the HEI dist pretty tight to the firewall,as the engine is set back aprox 3 1/2" from factory v8 location. My longhorn is set up this way for a little weight transfer on the lwb truck. Good luck......crazy AL:)

Thanks for the replies and info.

One more question. I understand the 8 cyl original location for the engine towers is the forward position, so I now know where to locate the towers in the frame. However, what is the difference in the towers themselves? When I got the truck all parts for it were in several boxes. The towers were included, but how can I tell if they are for a 6 cyl or 8cyl, and does it matter which are used so long as they are in the right location?

Thanks again.

If you look at longhorn's pic, his V8 towers mount to the front of the crossmember........the 6/250 towers mount to the rear of the crossmember. To answer the Q, yes they are different parts(6 to v8),but you can use either set. the 6 /292 towers are different (staggered), & cant be used to mount a v8. I would set the towers down on the frame, & see which set of holes line up.......6/250 stands in proper position should leave 1 bolt hole showing at the top of the frame rail ea side(ahead of the stand). Hope that helps.......Crazy AL :bowtie:
