side pipes- lots of pics wanted

i have a 86 lwb c10 w headers and a 700r4 tranny. i want to run dual side pipes at about a 65 degree angle on each side in front of the rear wheels. 2.5 inch pipe with 3 inch stainless tips, X-pipe and thrush welded mufflers. i just want to see some pics of any trucks that have a similar set up, from the underside of the truck and the outside of the truck as well. also wondering how you get around the parking brake cables being in the way. thanks !! :metal: some video of the sound of the exhaust would be right nifty as well :)

I was thinking of Thrush welded mufflers as well but I don't know how they sound. Have you heard the sound - is it a nice tone????

:chevy:My pride and joy, she has been rocking these true duel 3 inch straight side pipes for a couple years. i`m sorry i do not have any underside pictures though. i will have to get some at a later time but probably not soon enough it may be a while. I do not know the angle of the turn at the end Be warned if you do not have heatshields your legs and any passengers WILL be burned. and wraps like i have work but over course of years ive heard they cause rust issues. also consider amount children and other people unaware of the hot pipes around the truck they could severely injure themselves, I AM SPEAKING FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE!!! mcdonalds and such during the summer where the worst I couldnt let the truck out of my sight for a bit til the pipes cooled. coming out under the fender was hottest it was directly into the manifolds from ther.

Heres a short vid, you wont be sorry. This is with 2.5 true duals, long glasspacks, hooker comp headers and 2.5 to 3.5 tips, but I'm changing back to my Summit brand welded mufflers tomorrow.

Almost forgot, do the gas tank side first if you only have the one tank that is. On mine, the tank determined the angle of the tips.

I got my welded muffs on today, I'll try to post sound clip tomorrow. Also my coworker has a blazer with vortec heads, edel. rv cam, headers and the thrush welded I'll try to get a clip of that as well.

Welded mufflers, these sound exactly the same as the Thrush brand. Co-worker drove his Flaming purple minivan today.

I went the side dump rout due to lack of undercarriage clearance with the air ride. (aired up in the picture) I like the look, but was very disappointed with the sound. It sounded totally awesome with side by side dumps under the truck but I was getting gassed out in the cab, so I needed to shoot it farther out past the body. I have no crossover pipe, and that might be why it sounds funny to me since when I have my window down, all I can hear is four cylinders on my side of the truck.

Another downside is starting it up with bad valve seals when you've been parked for a few hours next to a nice Vette at A&W on cruise night and you spray some $h!t on the guys door when you start up.. :exit:

Yeah Smoothies are kinda "love em or hate em" type wheels since they're so unique. I love em! :smoke:

The first two pics are what it looked like when i bought the truck.

I redid the entire exhaust with the 2 1/4 inch kit from summit racing. I tucked them up before the leaf springs and put 4 inch slanted tips on there. They're about half an inch away from the body. Close to the gas tanks, but I ditched the side saddle tanks and put in a blazer tank in the back.

BINGO!! thats exactly what i needed! how did you get around the parking brake cables? or do the pipes even get hot enought to melt them at that point? also do you have any more pics of the routing? how do you like the split cowl hood by the way? i got the same one for my 2wd truck haha thought the split cowl looked a little different then the regular one people usually get! thanks !

mine is 4 wheel drive but you get the idea that and my tail pipes go straight up i'll see about posting a vid

stock trans crossmember is a bit of a pain to get over/under but an exhaust shop can help you with that

3 inch out tucked under frame next to saddle tank and out cutout in bedside. Waiting on 3 to 5 inch stainless tip to finish.

I routed the pipes just low enough to clear the parking break cable by a few inches, but just high enough to hug the body of the truck. The parking break cable is easy to move too, you could just weld a U-shaped bracket to the frame and hang the cable from it if it hangs too close to the exhaust. Also, if you're trying to do this exhaust with a 2 wheel drive truck, it'll be a lot easier to do an X-pipe since you have no transfer case. I was going to do an X-pipe but it was too hard on my 4x4.

I don't have any more pics of the routing because I'm currently re-doing it for my ls swap I just finished. But it'll be exactly the same and I'll post more pics up when I get it done.

The cowl hood is cool. Definitely different. Gives it a new look, I like it a lot. Thanks.

aren't most of these pice, pipes that exit out the side.... instead of true sidepipes? I'd like to have true sidepipes on mine, like a shelby cobra, or the corvette side pipes, the lake pipes are cool as well
