more oil please

Hello all. Having an lube problem. Putting my 402 back together after some inspection and gasket changes. Since it has not been run for quite a while, I thought i would prime the oil pump before installing the intake. I'm not getting oil to the rockers on the passenger side. Ran the drill motor for about 5 minutes. Should i prime longer or look for an issue? Was never a problem before with this engine. Thanks.

Rotate the crank then prime more.

Just a thought....If you are running a shaft ONLY, you need the trimmed up housing /shaft combo. The housing makes the feed to the other side ((sb or BB). longhorn:chevy:

No doubt the ARP stuff is of super high quality, but there are cheaper primers, too, by the Proform and Summit brands.

I used a proper primer on mine and it did take quite a while to prime. I was surprised. At first I didn't realize that the shaft didn't drop down quite deep enough onto the oil pump connector. But then, even after I got full pump engagement, it took a while to see the oil at the rockers.

I think I may have also turned the crank to make sure galleries were lining up and I was getting enough oil to prime the rod bearings.

Getter -Done, showed you right....I do agree Matt Franklin, there may be cheaper products out there;) That ARP pcs is nice, & the price is not bad (figure cutting an old dizzy, & making the pcs. Been there, done that....your time probably is worth more than the cash! But,yes he did show A nice pc.....that bottom pc crosses one side to the other on the lifter gallery.;) We all have it square.....time for a :smoke: CL

We all assume you are using a good 1/2" drill. I didn't have a good drill for years and I never got much oil to prime in my engines.

I did use the straight rod type since I already had it. Will by a better unit for the next time. Did run the engine for a short time today, pulled the valve covers and all is well. Thanks for all the info and knowledge.

Congrats! And have fun driving it!

You have four more months of road construction season before winter starts. ;-)

(I can say that because I'm from Minnesota originally.)

You got that right.

Re: more oil please

I just used a speed wrench by hand at about 60 RPM to pump up the oil until it came out each and every rocker. That's all it takes to prime the way I see it.
