Fender welting Trivia question?
Fender welting, Trivia question: Did Chevy step side style pick-up trucks of the 40's -50's have factory installed fender welting? I seem to recall seeing welting in those years on F@rd trucks, but not so much on Chevys. If so, was solid rubber vs the re-pop style? Pics would be helpful. Just wondering. I am considering installing welting on my 55.2 truck rear fenders.

I've never seen what I would consider being factory on any of the AD trucks..
There was also none on my IH, but I added it..I used the repop stuff off ebay.. Pretty good quality..I liked the results..at least I dont have metal on metal anymore I'll be using it on my AD as well |
Re: Fender welting Trivia question?
My 47 had what was left of the welting when I bought it in 1973. I think that there is the remnants of the welting on one or more of the cabs I have but it is too dark to check now .

Re: Fender welting Trivia question?
i have taken apart dozens of trucks, I have never seen welting. I have seen on some mid years (49-51) a thin..... rubber? on the front fenders. never on the rears.
it could have been rubber years ago but now its a stiff plastic. mid years only, i havent seen it on 47-48 or ~52-55. this is info compiled from dozens of trucks. I have a 49 I just took apart and it had it, i will try to get by for a picture today. "welting", as i understand it, has the bead on the outside and sticks out between the fender and the cab. i have never seen welting. only this thin material that does not stick out past the fender edge. |
