1986 Silverado short fleet - Project "Scarlet"

Some of you guys may know me from the 67-72 side, but I love the square bodies too! I picked up this 86 this past weekend from a little small town in Alabama. An older gentleman had the truck, he was a car guy no doubt and kept the truck super nice.

The tired 305 was replaced at some point and it has a strong running 350 (pretty stock, but it sure does run good) in it now. I wouldn't hesitate to jump in the truck and go anywhere. It is really a cool old truck, rust free, looks like a pretty nice repaint maybe 15yrs ago. It still has a good shine to it.

I'm planning a 4/6 static and some sort of wheels and tires on it, rear sport bumper, 3 spoke Corvette wheel. That's about it. It needs some small things, the front spoiler is cracked, a couple very minor dings .. but I have never seen or driven one this clean. I'm stoked man.

:burnout:

Stay tuned !

This is one beautiful truck man. I love the way it sounds and drives down the road at 70mph like a new truck. I'm sure it will be a real stunner when you are finished adding your touches.

And remember, your old man is here to supervise! :metal:

Working on the rear drop kit.. just curious. What's the best way to convert a square to 4 wheel disc? I have done several 67-72 but never a square body.

Are there conversion brackets available, maybe Astro / Impala SS? How are you guys converting them? What has to change on the Master cyl / prop valve?

Thanks.

You can use the exact same setup that you used on the Gold truck. The 10 & 12 bolts share the same axle tube bolt pattern (drum backing plate pattern). I’d say do the captain Fab brackets,Astro rotors etc...

Love the Red. It’ll certainly be a beauty when you’re done, Chad!

Just making sure.. are these part of the factory suspension? Or do you think they have been added at some point?

I am doing a flip kit and just want to make sure these equate to a "stock height" suspension. And not something that has been added on giving me more drop than I'm looking for. Is it just the stock suspension setup?

I'm sorry for the noob question, I dont know as much about the squares as I do the coil / TA trucks (67-72) I dont see where the coil spring pack could even fit into that lower hole.. I think they're just part of the suspension. (Ex. I leave them in place after the flip)

Thanks.

Chad,
Yeah, that's the right part. It's basically where the spring travels when it's cycling.
Nice truck, btw !!

It's called a shackle. A dropped one requires a cut to the bed support above it. That one is stock.

Pop and I blew the rear suspension apart to get ready for the flip. Detailed the undercarriage, just touching things up. It looks like it had a light coat of undercoat from the factory so we just freshened a lot of it up. Brand new US Mags, Nitto 555 G2. 295/40 on the rear. The next time I can break away were going to tear into the front.

But, heres the rear.. nothing spectacular ..but its "just a driver" :haha:

Chad, I believe the rear settled even more overnight! It really looks awesome on that beautiful truck. I can't wait to get the front dropped.

I've only seen Red, Tan, Blue, or Black 3 spoke wheels. I'm not saying they were never made in other colors (not 100% sure honestly) I've never seen a green one.

I can get you one pretty cheap if you decide you want one.

The rear flip is complete, and I found a great deal on a Sport Bumper. Just changing over from the step bumper really changed the looks of the truck.

Thanks, yeah I started searching for them after seeing yours. I really wish thy made a green, I’d go for it if they did. If you don’t mind, what’s “pretty cheap” for one in black? Just trying to compare vs the prices of original wheels I’ve seen. Thanks!

Oh and feel free to PM me, I don’t mean to clutter up your thread!

Chad's truck now has new disc brake calipers, new brake lines, Belltech Drop Spindles, Belltech Drop Springs and Belltech Gas Shocks. The finishing touch to the front discs are these beautiful dust shields from GoodMark. Perfect fit and finish.

Got her back on the ground today and took her on her first shake down run. Just to settle everything so we can retorque everything. This truck runs awesome. It's just a mild 350 but so clean and crisp I'm not touching it.

We made some updates to the interior of Scarlet recently. The new Dash Bezel is in along with a fresh detail on the Gauges and replacement of all the bulbs. The new Retro AutoSound digital stereo fit perfectly and sounds amazing. A little detailing on the dash and she is now as pretty inside as she is out!

She looks pretty good out in the sunshine too.
