Just got the gmc from grandpa. It is a 1970 gmc sierra grande longhorn, it is all original with all documentation. I am the third owner and it has around
70k miles. It is from california with no rust has a bigblock with th400 trans. The interior is bucket console with factory AC that blows really cold. I got it to build a short bed but now she is really gowing on me , so i think I will just restore to original. I will try to post pics.

First of all...:welcome2: and :hi: from Ohio. That is one sweet truck and I'm glad you are going to keep it orignal for two reasons: a) it was your grandads, b) that is a really loaded optioned truck and if you shorten it...down the road you might regret it. Like I said...very nice truck.

There is no doubt that when you are Going to a ball game, fishing on the lake in your Grandads truck...you will draw a growd.

By the way...if you have questions or need parts WES is in the Olympia WA. area. Also feel free to ask all the question you want.

That's a beautiful longhorn. I like the matching camper as well. Here's another vote for keeping it original.

You made the right choice, that truck is too nice to part or cut down.

Beautiful example of a Longhorn. Keep it the way it is - there's not many of them around any more, and yours could be one gorgeous truck when you're done.

I wouldn't restore it, but just change out things that are worn. True survivor type vehicles don't exist these days. Very nice truck. Trevor

Damn fine truck you have there. I'd leave it just as it is, topper and all.;)

WOW GREAT original truck, I hate to see you tear it down. Like was said above you'd regret it later since it was your grandpas. You don't see many like that anymore anywhere

Thanks DeWayne for the props...:)
I am with everybody else on this also. I would keep it stock. It would be much easier to cut a 1/2 ton long box down than the Longhorn because the Longhorn has a 1 ton chassis.
Here is a picture of a 70 GMC Siera Grande Longhorn that I have been working on for a customer of mine. It is also loaded with options. I like the fact that the owner still uses it for what it was designed for. :metal:

I've never said anything like this on the board before because I usually say "it's your truck do what you want with it" but if you cut that thing down I will personally come to Washington and beat knots on your head... Just kidding, but do not change anything on that truck!!!! Just enjoy it.

Don`t even change the mirrors. That truck is rare in a few ways.GMC called the 8 1/2' trucks Custom Campers, not Longhorns, but it also has the Custom Camper package available on 8' trucks as well. It`s kinda confusing. On top of that,it`s a top-of-the-line Sierra Grande which was a bit rare in any 10-30 series trucks. Then,it`s loaded with BBC,A/C,buckets/console,and on like that. All this in one of the most well liked colors.2500 or 3500?Does the fender badge sat Sierra Grande or Custom Camper?Nice truck!Super nice!
Is it a

Great truck! An amazing survivor, you should thank grandpa every time you see him! I loved my 70 Sierra Grande C2500. Mine too was big block auto but bench seat and 8' bed. I used it as my do it all truck and it was a good tower.

Leave it like it is mostly. But you MUST add disc brakes, the single best mod I did to mine. Others included JET Q-jet with electric choke, gear reduction starter, and HEI ignition.

Re: 1970 gmc sierra grande longhorn bb buckets

That is one sweet ride. My wife surprised me 10 years ago with a 71 Longhorn from a farm down the street. I was a little disappointed at first because I wanted a truck I could lower and customize but the more I drove it the more I liked it. I changed a few things to make it my own. You've got a valuable piece of Americana from a generation ago. Enjoy it!
