1968 chev swb

Just hauled in my 68 that was purchased new in 68 . He had an engine exchange as well as a transmission exchange, otherwise I am all original. Now I have had this truck parked since the timing gear broke. I tore into it pulled the head a nd took it with me to have the gear pressed on the cam and head redone. Long story short head was cracked nobody could match my motor with a head so the truck sat in my driveway until I moved a few months later. And of course I moved to a neighborhood that did not allow stalled vehicles or projects In the driveway. So the truck was sent to a friends where it has been for 16 yrs. But I got it yesterday and it is in my dads new shop. So my dilemma is do I try to fix thie exchanged motor, that appears to be a 235, or put my 350 in there that I rebuilt a few years ago for running a dirt track car. If I go with the 350 I would like to change to an automatic trans as well. .???

I guess if I had a 350 on hand and a broke six cyl in the truck I would use the 350 as long as it wasn't too radical. Just get a th350 auto trans and put in at the same time.

My vote is the 350 also since the truck isn't stock anyway (235 engine).

You need to check your rear end ratio. A lot of those sixes used a 4.11 or lower ratio and your truck will rev pretty high going down the highway with the 350. May need to change to a friendlier ratio or go with an overdrive trans.

Its a 4:11 positrac rearend. I like the three speed, but think an automatic will work better.

Does anyone know which mirrors were stock on this truck, round or square?

Is 700 r4 an overdrive transmission? What kind of steering column will it need?

Re: 1968 chev swb

yes, it is an overdrive... and a stock column will work...
