Need help with connector
 

Does anyone know what type of connector this is? Specifically this one. I have several female connectors similar to this but they don't fit in my relay socket. I bought the relay kit from keep it clean and decided to repin it to match my harness color wise but the female connectors that came with my Painless kit do not fit in the socket.

That is the metal terminal for inside a Packard connector. That's the female end, and it snaps into the plastic housing from the rear. Sometimes people group Weatherpack and Metripak into 'Packard', but I've always used it to mean the pre-Weatherpak 1960s stuff.

Here's an example of how they go together. The plastic housings are available in a wide range of wire counts and layouts.

I would assume your Painless harness uses a more modern connector style. If you wind up having to make an adapter, I recommend you get the correct ends for both and make something that has (as an example) your truck's Packard on one end and the harness's Metripak on the other (or whatever incompatible connection type you're up against).

I'm not 100% but as they show below normally the metal female tang goes into the male plastic housing and the male metal tang goes into the female housing and then they all snap together. To get the wires out you need a small screwdriver to release the little metal tang on the back of the female or side of the male terminals. The setup shown below would normally have three wires when you're done, of course. The weirdest one you'll find is a pyramid of 7 or so for the heater on an AC truck. I have a couple of spares because they're an uncommon one and bake out (plastic hardens and cracks).

Accumulating a set of ends and plugs and tools takes a while, but if you're going to work on vehicles from this era much it's a core competency and worth learning.

Not sure how visible it's going to be as an attachment, but here's the basic set I ordered to fill up a little drawer of common parts. Might be useful to others because it took me a while to find all the part numbers for the ones we use most frequently on these vehicles.

Thanks guys. I knew it was the female terminal for a packard connector my problem is the female ones that I have do not fit in the socket that I have. I guess i was more curious if there are different sizes? The outside dimensions of the ones that i have are too large to fit inside the socket.

Im thinking that the parts that I have are some cheap chinese copy that just does not fit our standard packard style.

The female connectors for the headlights are bigger than the others, maybe that's what you have?

I'm not used to seeing the two tangs on both sides of that female connector. Is that what is holding you up? Any chance you could nip them off and then get them to fit? Nothing to lose if you were going to change them anyway. The retention clip appears to be on the bottom so it should still snap in like normal.

Those are the original that were in the socket. I'm trying to crimp new connectors to my factor harness and basically build the relay into the headlight section but the female connectors I have won't fit. I'll try the ones in the link above.

That's true. I work nights so what daylight I do get I have the kids to deal with. I do most of my shopping at night on Amazon using my prime account I get free two day shipping and always find parts cheaper.
