1950 COE cab?
 

A friend of mine said I can have is 1950 COE cab for free.My question is can I put the cap in to the back of my truck a 2500 and it as a 8' bed.He lives far a way and I don't want to rent a trailer to pull all that way.If I put it in the bed of the truck will I do more damage to it or will be ok ?And I hope iam in the right thread for this.

if front fenders and hood are off it will. You will have to put a pallet or two under it because of the wheel well on your truck and set it in sideways.

Yup, take a bunch of random timber blocks to prop it and it should fit fine. Oh and tie downs lots of reliable tie downs.

Not an AD era (well, actually this IS an "AD" - it's an Art Deco era) but is a photo I've kept because I used to have a '46 half ton and if I'd kept it I would have painted it this color.

I'd agree with taking along enough pallets to get it up above the wheel wells and some good inch and a half wide (at least)ratchet tie down straps. I've hauled a number of truck cabs in the back of my 71 GMC long bed and even hauled a few in the bed of my 48. That wasn't the wisest thing to do but it was take it then or forget it on that one.

If your talking about a complete cab including hood, grill, fenders steps, doors etc. hauling it all in a 8' puck-up bed will be a very tight fit. I got just the sheet metal when I bought mine and it all but filled up a U-haul box van. Now if it's to much of a task I might be interested. PM me if you want to talk about it.

ending on how you take it apart and how much time you have it might be a wise move to come up with a flatbed trailer big enough to haul it on so you could set the whole cab and nose on the trailer at one time and strap it down and go. Fast toys is pretty handy with the wrenches and knows a few short cuts so he can give you a time line on tearing it down like he did. A few bucks for trailer rental might save a lot of hours dismantling and figuring out how to stash the pieces in the bed of the truck with the cab on the pieces that won't fit in the cab. I've done that drive a lot of miles and work all day and then drive back thing too many times getting parts and it doesn't get any easier.

The more I thought about it and looking on the web at used trailers they are not that much.I think iam going to save some money to buy a used trailer.My friend said no rush to pick it up.

Not a bad idea. I bought a little camp trailer with a title for 50 bucks a few years to make a flat bed out of. It's my 50.00 storage shed with a license plate right now as I have it full of parts and stuff.

Rent a U Haul trailer one way. That way if anything happens (flat tire,burn up a wheel bearing) they will come to the rescue.

I found a 6x12 tandem heavy duty trailer with no sides on it. Do you think this will work the cab is cut from the frame behind the cab and it still has the front wheels on it too?
