Exhaust rusted out changed to dual two questions.

Ok so I backed out of the drive a few weeks ago and the exhaust system had rusted out and had to be replaced. Took it to a local shop with a great referral and went with a dual exhaust and flowmasters mufflers. Its a bit too loud for my taste especially since its a stock sub 200 horse power engine. In Texas we call that all hat and no cattle. He also routed the pipes out behind the rear tires on each side. In my mind I always remember them coming out the back.
Is there a right way and which one is it if so? What should I ask for him to change the mufflers to so its not soooo loud? I like a little rumble but its annoying how loud it is right now. Opinions and suggestions please!
Thanks PG

If your going topless I would rather have the exhaust going to the sides, that way you won't have exhaust gasses circling back in. I'd go with two stock walker mufflers to quiet it down.

OK good thought on the side for that reason. Thanks PG

I second the out the side and for mufflers I like the cheap o turbo mufflers they sound good behind a v8 but not obnoxious.

Definitely out the sides, behind rear wheels with full size Dynomax/walker muffs. Flow masters are downright obnoxiuos and make every v8 on the road sound like a Mustang.

I have dual 2.5" all the way back and magnaflow mufflers. Pipe are routed out the side. Sounds alright but farts like a glass pack on the shifts and will sometimes gargle if the gears are slowing it down. I'm going a different route, just don't know what yet...

I also run 2.5" tubing all the way with a cross-over, and dumps behind the rear wheels. However, I now run Walker stainless steel "Quietflow" mufflers with a set of exhaust tip resonators that I got from Summit racing. The Quietflow mufflers have a very nice tone, and are pretty quiet too on my 450hp 400 SBC. However, I take a lot of trips with my wife and son with the Blazer, and there was still a tad of resonance. So I added the set of exhaust tip resonators, and the resonance went away. Yes, I have probably lost some power with the Quietflows and resonators, but it is now totally enjoyable inside the Blazer on those long road trips.

BTW, I also totally lined my tub with Fat Mat under my carpet, which also helps reduce interior noise.
