the new Maverick

Remember the Maverick? Ford is pulling the Maverick emblem out of the closet. For 2022 the new Maverick is a truck!

Re: the new Maverick

Most recently was used in the 00s in Europe, was just a renamed Escape. I wish they had done the naming differently, should be F150, F100(Ranger), and Ranger(Maverick). The front end needs to grow on me but overall I like the rest of the truck.

I'm wondering whether this is just a marketing stunt ( name change ) rather than an actual new product.

Ford did this with the Taurus once by renaming it to the Five Hundred ( 500 ). It failed shortly thereafter and they changed the name back to Taurus.

This small truck looks like a rebadged Ranger to me.

My wife is tired of my rants but here goes:

The Ford Maverick is not a truck
The Ford Mustang is not an electric four door
The Ford Bronco is not a four door
The Chevy Blazer is not a four door

The marketing departments need to be tarred and feathered. Come up with new names for new stuff and leave the classics just that, classic. If your resurrection doesn't add to the original it's just more marketing junk.

My mother had a 1970 Maverick. My dad bought it because it was cheap. She had it less than a year. She got hit in it and said it crumpled up like a tin can. She was used to her 1959 Ford Ranch Wagon. My old man got her a new car fast. Mama wasn't happy and daddy was no fool.

I don't see a rebadged Ranger, I see Ford's answer to the Honda ridgeline. Rangers have always been cab & box pickup trucks. The Maverick is a unibody SUV with the cargo area roof cut off. Not a truck at all.

A friend told me it has a 3 cylinder engine?!?

My Dad was driving a 1975 Comet that I wrecked when I was 16 ( after the Granada died). They put a nose on it from a Maverick. We used to call it a Kamaverick. Not my favorite car.

The optional engine is the 2.0 3cyl ecoboost that they are using in the new escape and bronco sport.

If the rumored price point of starting around $22,000 holds, this could be a nice vehicle that will do what the old school sedans used to do before the EPA mileage rules turned them into 4 passenger compact cars. Be nice to have a comfortable vehicle that can seat 4 or 5, has a reasonable truck/bed for luggage and can tow the family boat or a small camper trailer without killing your bank account like a lot of the full sized sedan replacement pickups do.

I learned to drive in mom's '70 Maverick. The 6 cyl w/ 3 on the tree was a total slug, but that will force a guy to actually learn to work with it, no extra power to compensate for bad clutch work.
She really liked that car, had it for about 10 years, ultimately trading it in on a Nova in '80 or '81.

A friend in his mom's 4 door, 302 maverick could lay a strip of rubber 1/2 a city block long. Was a one wheel peel. ;)

My dumb neighbor had a 4 door Maverick. It might have been a Comet. I don't remember, But it was ugly as sin.

He put Cragars on it and called it a hot rod.:lol::lol::lol: Yeah right!

I'm no engineer but I would say that had to do with wheelbase and weight distribution. I certainly wasn't for looks. It's like the guys that ran station wagons. And I obviously have no idea what I'm talking about.

Obviously. :)

I knew a long time Ford mechanic and he told me a story about some local drag racers that ended up running a very successful Maverick. This is exactly why. Said they saw the first one and immediately figured it would make a good drag car due to it's design.

The Maverick special K posted I'd drive any day of the week. A buddy of mine as teenagers had a 2 door 1968 Falcon that was halfway decent as well with a 302 and four speed.

Guy here has about 15 of them around his house, even has a couple grabber and sprint models. I also pass an orange one going to my grandmothers I've been meaning to stop and see if it's for sale.

The earlier ones were ok looking, but like many cars of that time, they got worse over the years.
