Hello guys, does anyone know if the heater control (defrost/air fan) arms can be repaired or if I need to replace to entire unit? See pic below. Thanks for your help.

Yes, you can buy replacement heater control arms.

Here is Peanut74's how to disassemble the heater controls.

Also GMCPaul has them for $32.

Just did one of these. The instructions linked above are for an AC control and look much more involved. I did a non-AC and it did not require any drilling - was pretty straightforward just took a little time to line everything up (you will see what I mean). The kit I used is from OldAir and several dealers sell it - may be the same as GMCPaul. It has stamped levers and is supposed to be guaranteed not to break. Here is a link to one place I know sells it:

I didn't use the faceplate, just changed the levers. You can Youtube several people rebuilding them, I think Brothers has a pretty good video.

One thing I will say - you do not reuse the original pivot pin or nut or levers at all, so if they are the least bit stuck, just cut them off to avoid damaging the rest of the control unit. I fought mine and then realized this later on. It really is pretty easy and probably takes longer to get them out of the truck than to rebuild them.

I still can't believe that they used that pot metal for levers for so many years, just terrible weak stuff. Great info in this thread. Make sure your cables are in tip top shape, they should be effortless.

If you don't rush it its not that hard to rebuild them. Drilling holes for the screws was the hardest part. Glad I rebuilt mine as I was looking to keep the classic look. As others have said make sure your cables move easily or you will be rebuilding the control a second time.
