Removing paint from firewall

PO got lots of overspray on firewall and covered up factory chalk marks. Any way to sand, scrape or apply chemicals to remove the paint and salvage the chalk marks. Its old single stage paint. Thanks.

Just seen this video.
3M adhesive remover.
I know it is for adhesive but what do you think?

Worth a try! Pretty rare truck (65 short bed) with factory V8, auto, A/C, ps, and pb. I have found A/C, PG and J70 (power steering) on the firewall and I'd love to be able to save the markings.
