Re: 1968 Chevrolet ???????

Back in "the Day", there were very, very few options that carried mandatory additons or changes to the vehicle. The dealers had a Truck Data Book that listed all of the models in the truck line-up, from El Camino's, small (G-series) vans, step vans, all of the trucks from 10 thru 80-series and all of the options and equipment for each of them. Colors were shown, as were the interiors. Color combinations were suggested, but were apparently a "flexible" option. If you had a color that you wanted, say a Cadillac metallic color, you could get that on your truck.

Basically, it was whatever you and the saleman could agree on. Beyond that, there was the COPO (Central Office Production Order) route that really got some oddball combos in the works.

Today, we have packages that combine features in a way that only makes it easier for the assembly line to know what goes and what doesn't.
