I'll bent it either was bent because it wasn't installed properly. Or like you say it was bent to clear the chunk.
Anyway, I would use a watts link instead of a pan hard bar. Unless I was going to stay stock. Watts links work way better at keeping the rear strait.
And they are not bad in price from here.
