The correct fluid level is at the pan gasket.
I agree it is easy enough to cut down a stock tube.
I use a tubing cutter. The newer style gauge is riveted at the top.
I drill them and cut to length and add new rivets.
That way it looks factory.
I believe the locking style gauge fits the older tubes.
But you need to confirm that.
