The one currently on the pickup doesn't look like that at all, other than the part that threads into the engine. From the tapered neck back it's completely covered with some sort of sheet metal cylinder (that I called a "cup") and you can't see or get to the wire connection at all. It's got a slot or slots that the wire went into and disappeared, before I touched it and either broke it completely or just moved it out of the way.

So I'm trying to figure if the cover is supposed to pop off to access the connector ??? But there's not much room and you would need to slide it back up the wire somehow (assuming it wasn't broken) just to disconnect/connect the wire. I'm wondering if it was intended as some sort of heat shield?

I just though maybe someone here had seen something like that and would know how to deal with it?

The sending unit could be just fine if I could get it reconnected, but how? Probably I just need to buy a new one, plus a matching female connector to splice onto the end of the old wire.
